Official NASCAR thread

Today Jimmie Johnson won his 76th Cup race putting him in a all time tie with Dale Earnhardt.

But the big news surprising everyone last week was Steward-Hass Racing announcing that next year they will leave Chevy for Ford. Tony Steward has been a big supporter of Chevy for decades.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
As you said, Tony Stewart has been in the Chevy camp for a very long time. I haven't read the back story on this one, so I don't know what prompted this move. Stewart-Haas doesn't really have a fully functioning engine shop. So I assume they'll be buying/leasing Ford engines from Roush/Yates, instead of Chevys from Hendrick? Does anyone else build Fords now?

I think NASCAR should go international!

It will be Roush/Yates engines and they will start building their own chassis, and of course Ford support. Probably do a tech sharing deal with Penske. I don't think we will hear the full reasons for the switch but I suspect Gene Haas' business with Ford or GM may be involved.

Hasn't there been decisions in the past at Stewart-Hass racing that Stewart couldn't have been too happy about? The Kurt Busch hire without his permission or input being the most notable example at the top of my head. It makes me wonder if he sometimes gets pushed aside for what Haas wants.

what go wondered me, is that in europe they race on non oval racetracks, with more corners, what are the car set ups for those tracks?

Good win in Phoenix for Kevin Harvick holding off Carl Edwards on the last lap.

Edwards needed to turn right and pinch Harvick, a la Bill Elliott and Rick Wilson in the Firecracker 400 years ago.

Carl Edwards could've wrecked Harvick very easily but he didn't. For me, Carl gains a lot more respect cause he didn't. Yes, he could've raced him a little harder and maybe nudged him more out of the way to get the win, but Harvick also drove that final lap to win as well.

Difference between pinching and wrecking. Edwards needed to keep contact with the 4. Once he had the nose out front, he needed to hinder Harvick.
