Obama Promised $2 Trillion Savings in 10 Years by Health Groups

May 11 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama today will get a pledge from health-care companies and other related groups to slow projected spending growth by 1.5 percent a year over the next decade, lowering U.S. medical costs by at least $2 trillion, administration officials said.

The promise from organizations representing the insurance industry, hospitals, drugmakers, doctors and the country’s biggest union of health-care workers could result in a 20 percent reduction in the projected rate of increase by 2019. Such a move would free an average of $2,500 annually for a ****** of four within five years, the officials.
