President Barack Obama recently held a secret meeting with billionaire Michael Bloomberg to discuss implementing gun control measures.
Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York City, has led the charge against Styrofoam, large soda cups, tobacco and trans fats. Now, he has the Second Amendment in his sights.
The founder of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Bloomberg has organized over 1,000 mayors from Los Angeles’ Eric Garcetti to the tiny town of Normal Illinois’ Chris Koos to form a network of executives willing to implement gun control, WND reported.
The meeting, not listed on the official White House schedule, came amid reports that Obama has discussed using executive authority to circumvent the will of the people and begin the process of taking guns away from citizens. Unsurprisingly, Obama’s primary political adviser, Valerie Jarrett, was also in attendance.
He has recently launched into the public debate the idea of banning those who are on the government’s “no fly” list from purchasing a gun, for example. But the public relations campaign to support an executive order banning guns would need money and support from the nation’s top Democrats, something Bloomberg can personally deliver.
Also recently, Obama met with former U.S. Rep Gabrielle Giffords in his office to discuss Second Amendment legislation.
The failure of Bloomberg’s mayors is not due to a lack of financial support, he has directed over $50 million toward his gun control effort. His net worth is upward of $30 billion.
Obama is likely attempting to lend credibility and authority to the group, while using them as “community organizers” to break up the attention Obama would get if attempted to implement an executive order regarding gun control on his own.
