If its gonna be an all ages type thing you need a sound thats gonna appeal to everyone. So I suggest some old school house. Stuff like;

Jeniffer Paige - Crush (Teifschwarz Mix). it has a mature sound but its dancable and catchy. find tracks like that and try not to mix TOO much genres. its good to have a signature sound.

dance music and hip hop are allways going to be the main music choice at most parties, but i aggree with some of the other guys and definatly think "classic rock" (i hate that term) has a place. Nothing gets a party going, (particularly a party with plenty of guys) like Whitesnake - here i go again, or my favourite Guns'n'roses - Paradise City.
