Did nicotine patches help you to stop smoking? What is your opinion of them?

No, but I don't smoke all the time. Just once in a while for a couple weeks when I'm on vacation.

Currently have chew in. I will be returning to work on Thursday so this is my last tin of chew for about six months.

Good luck to you in work and quitting nicotine! I've tried everything to quit and always go back and I know they are killing me.

It's all self control. You can quit nicotine if you set your mind to it. Nicotine really weakens your self control though, when it's been a part of your life.

It is harder for me to not drink pop then it is to use nicotine. I have had pop in my life though for at least 15 years though.

When I stopped smoking I just gave away my last half-pack of cigarettes, and didn't smoke again. The first 2 weeks totally sucked balls, but after that it started getting easier.

That's basically how it is. I am usually fine after three days of no nicotine. I might not be after this though. Chew seems to be much stronger. I'll tell you how it goes.

I used chew to help the cigarette cravings. It sounds counterproductive, but it helped me stop smoking, and eventually I gave up on chew as well.

Ohhh, that's why he's been so cranky lately. :jester:

I've heard that the anti smoking pill works best. And no, I don't know the specifics i.e. the name of the drug.

garrison - remember, each individual is unique insofar as ease of ability to quit.
There have been many credible, medical journal studies that have concluded that, for some people, a tobacco dependency can be as severe as a heroin addiction. Be tenacious, keep trying and DON'T get discouraged !

Buy a 200 piece box of this lol ! You'll need something to bite down on when you feel like torchin' one.

I bet that you didn't go out drinkin during that time either, would that be correct ? ;)

Long road trips and social events where alcohol is served pose as the greatest challenges for the would be, quitting smoker. Avoid both like the plague.

I find that they roll easy enough with the sticky side. Lighting them is a bugger and when you take a drag, they taste foul and smell like fish and burnt skin.

If I was you, try putting them on your skin, but most of it will come from will power. Hope ut works out for you.

You would be correct in your assessment, sir. :hatsoff: I became rather reclusive for the next month.

I'm wearing one right now.....they do work, but you still have to have tremendous self control.....they help, but the psychological effects are still going to haunt you. That is where I have stumbled in the past.....but right now, I am doing pretty well......since Jan. 1, I have had one......it was in a stupid moment of weakness, and I didn't really even want it, but I still did. Still, just a slip.....haven't touched one today, and I don't really have the desire to.

I think it's called Chiantix, or something similar to that, and it actually is supposed to be kind of a miracle worker. I had a co-worker that smoked for nearly all of her life, had tried to quit numerous times using patches, gum, etc. to no avail. She had her doctor write her a prescription, and bam, no more smoking. I don't know what kind of health care coverage you have (I have the holy god, I hope nothing happens to me kind), but you might want to look into that. Doctors these days are very willing to write a prescription for them, and I believe that they are not too expensive.

I wish you all the best luck in the world.....I am still fighting to break free of the chains of nicotine.....it's not easy, but, very few things that are worthwhile ever are. You can do it. Just remember that you are not losing a friend, like it feels like you are, but rather are kicking out of your life something that wants to destroy you very slowly from the inside out.

My Grandfather died from smoking. They said they had to spend several minutes reshaping his face after he died because he was straining so hard for breath.

I don't know about you, but I don't want to go out like that.

Thanks. Sorry about your grandpa. I was on Chantix for 7 weeks, didn't smoke, but became depressed and foul as fucking hell. Counseling nurse wanted me to taper off and use the patch. I was so fucking scared of putting nicotine back in me through a patch. Big mistake, I was smoking again in no time and felt good again. If I would have used the patch as counseled, maybe I would still be smoke free. Oh well, I'll try again.
