i am a HUGE die-hard hockey fan...those shirts that say Eat,Breathe,Live Hockey....thats me!
i have to say that this years NHL11 by EA is proving to me that EA doesnt care anymore and is only interested in the fanboys who consistently every freakin year buy the Newest Madden even though it is the same game over and over with little to no new additions to the game.
i have been waiting my whole video game playing life for games to begin to do the "be a pro" type modes where you only just play 1 specific player on the playing surface (any game)
i have played 6 games of my Be a Pro mode on NHL 11 and the balance of scoring in the games,gameplay levels,difficulty levels and overall fun of this game ARE FUCKING GONE!
i cannot get decent levels of difficulty,gameplay sliders and actual gameplay to make this game 1/100th of a realistic type hockey game.you shouldn't have to tinker with settings after every game only to have it go way too much in the other direction that you would like.
the scores are nonsense, i won my 1st game of the season after being drafted by the Florida Panthers 11-0! ....11-0!! florida was one of the worst teams in the NHL last year an 11-0 opening day win? cmon!
my games have had complete unbalance from me losing to a team 4-0 in the 1st 6 minutes of a game to completely shutting them down and getting a 5-4 victory. 4 goals in 6 minutes? really?
my most recent had my panthers and dallas in a barn burner 0-0 with 8 shots each after 2 periods!
it makes no sense and thank god i havent gotten rid of my old NHL's im going to go back to playing them when the gameplay and difficulty were cared about by EA.

So many other games to buy these days that takes up time away from playing current NHL before the next season so Ive stopped completely until they come up with a finale like version of NHL and just have roster addons and other content addons when they figure out a new feature.

EA would never do that they are money grubbers! and just continually put out shit and the masses keep buying them. i buy but i dont consider myself part of the masses since i only started getting back into buying NHL games in 08 i went a long time without a hockey game cause they just plain old sucked!
but as a die hard hockey fan i love me some hockey video games...just get it right so its not an annoyance to get the settings right

@ Shayd i saw someone who had some weird settings on the EA message board that im gonna try and see if they make the game any freaking better to play (be a pro mode or just regular VS mode) but if not im going to try my hand at Be a GM and draft every young stud player form the past few years and see if i can build a dynasty!

Nintendo hockey was great too, I remember you could pick the skinny, fat, or average guy and in reality all hockey should be based on that.

i havent yet, but i started a Be a GM career and i set the game settings to those sliders for a more realistic "sim" and my team has gone 3-1 in the preseason with the games relatively close (3-2,4-2,4-3) and shot totals were avg for a true NHL game like 25-35 per team give or take.
and the power plays were generally realistic also like 5-8 PP's combined both teams (again give or take a few).
i need to make my Be a Pro with those slider settings and maybe i would enjoy the game a little more. :dunno:

Yeah, those setting have worked pretty well for me, actually. I'm about 17 games into a Franchise season, and I'm 12-5-0 with the Sharks, although I traded for Luongo in net. My shot totals are pretty realistic too, I don't think I've gotten over 40 shots in a single game, most are mid 30s. My only problem, that I'm experimenting with different options to fix it, is the ludicrous amount of penalties. I'm now literally played all but about 10 minutes of the game on a penalty kill. I understand a few trips here and there, but I'm getting everything from tripping to elbowing to charging to spearing, (something I was shocked to see in the game in the first place), and after about 2 penalties, it seems every single one becomes an automatic major. :dunno:

-EDIT- Just quickly looked over my player stats after 18 games:

Thornton - 38 PIM
Marleau - 52 PIM(!!!):eek:
Heatley - 42 PIM
Boyle - 56 PIM
Vlasic - 74 PIM

I'm getting confused now, as both Marleau and Thornton have received game misconducts in two straight games. For spearing! :surprise:

yea that seems a little over the top and i think the settings that i posted had penalties all the way up to max. maybe take it one notch down.
knowing this game one notch down would = zero penalty calls

I'm tinkering with the settings almost every game, but I'm still getting a ridiculous rate of penalties, and nearly exclusively on my side. If I can find a good balance, I'll post it.

i believe the newest patch came out for this game on friday 11/12 for 360
and i think about a week earlier for the PS3.
so get your updates to maybe make this game a bit better?
i thinkthis is going to be my last NHL bought game until they get this game/gameplay/gameplay options figured out
plus i think a step in the right direction is apparantly firing the head of EA canada as the 1st step

I got so frustrated last week I turned off penalties altogether, and then just popped the game out and haven't played it since last Wednesday. I'll probably get around to downloading the patch this week and see if I can play without wanting to punch the wall.
