The one and only.
Great win for the Hawks last night. Finally, Captain Serious gets in on the action and records the game winner. Toews, Sharp, Kane, and Stålberg have all been pretty much transparent in the first five games.

This has been a great fucking series. All five games have gone in to overtime. Now Chicago needs to win at home to extend the series, something they haven't done yet. It'd be nice to win a game in regulation. Just sayin'...

Losing Hossa is too big a hit. I thought it was evident even yesterday. Sucks, but it is what it is. They can win the series, sure, but they will not go deep.

I am looking forward to LA and Vancouver tonight, a battle of the New England goaltenders.

I'm getting really annoyed with the early weekend games this year. It's not even lunch here and the damn Flyers/Pens game is done the first period. I love it when games occur while I'm fucking sleeping.

The U.S definitely has the best group of goaltenders.

Peace out San Jose.

This may be true, but I think Finland deserves to be mentioned along with the Americans in terms of goaltending, and that they may even be slightly superior (very slightly).

Don't get me wrong, the Americans are stacked when it comes to goaltending; Jonathan Quick is unquestionably one of the best goaltenders in the world and Cory Schneider is amazing and will be a superstar starting goaltender next season, but Tim Thomas (despite how good he is) is aging, Ryan Miller has regressed considerably and is nowhere near the goaltender he was when he was the starter for Team USA at the Olympics in Vancouver (at which time he was probably the best goaltender in the world), I'm not sold on Jimmy Howard (even though he had a really good year), and Craig Anderson can be unbelievably good on any given night (like yesterday), but his numbers are far from impressive (both this year and in his career).

The Finns have got Pekka Rinne (who led the league in wins this season and may be the best goaltender in the world, in my opinion), Antti Niemi (a Stanley Cup winning goaltender), Nicklas Backstrom (one of the league's most unappreciated talents), Kari Lehtonen (who was brilliant this season for the Stars), and Miikka Kiprusoff (who has been a stellar starting goaltender in the NHL for nearly a decade). I would take any of those five over Miller, Howard, and Anderson without blinking. Both sides have a top guy that any team would kill to have, but I honestly think that the Finns would have more dependable backups on an Olympic roster, for instance.

That's just my opinion, and I certainly do not think that any person who believes that the Americans have the best goaltending is out to lunch, because that is certainly a well-warranted opinion.

I just wanna mention that I don't think I can remember Team Canada having this good a roster for the World Championships ever; we usually field a Z-team (as opposed to a B-team) because guys are still in the playoffs and those who aren't aren't interested in playing. But (so far) we've got Cam Ward, Jay Bouwmeester, Dion Phaneuf, Luke Schenn, P.K. Subban, Jamie Benn, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Getzlaf, Evander Kane, Andrew Ladd, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Ryan O'Reilly, Corey Perry, Jeff Skinner, and John Tavares (among a few others I didn't mention). Wow! That is sick!

We were embarassed last year. And the year before, and then the year before that, too. This is also an important event for determining the seeding for the Olympics so it's about time some of these guys decided to play for Canada.

All you teams have been dreadful for the last two decades. I would LOVE to see Winnipeg bring the Cup home next, but that is just a pipe dream. Unlike around here sometimes, when I talk to Canadians from Manitoba on my NHL forum, they seem to show some god damned courtesy towards their southern border rival. I told them I was just happy we finally had a border rival and that the Jets never should have left.

Could happen though...

I thought about the Fins. I'd still take the U.S. Miller only regressed because of injuries. He's a boss when healthy. Lehtonen and Kipper are as up and down as Anderson and Howard. Miller was a beast in the Olympics and Thomas is just icing on the cake. Quick, Miller and Schneider trump any 3some from any other country imo. Thomas, Howard and Anderson could just as easily win gold with the U.S. I can't say the same about anybody elses bottom 3.

Where's all the up and coming Canadian goalies??? Who's our top 3? Price, Fleury, Luongo? Yikes.

Canada's definitely stalled recently in the goaltender department. Brodeur is going to be retiring soon, Luongo and Fleury are fairly up-and-down recently... It is really looking like Canada's Olympic goaltender is a race between Fleury and Price right now, and I'd give the nod to Price; he's really beginning to come into his own as a goaltender and I could see him being a Vezina candidate soon (if only we was on a team that deserved him). There's also Cam Ward, who is being wasted in Carolina. Considering all the hate Luongo gets, even a top three of Price, Fleury and Ward is pretty damn good.

As for up and coming goalies? Just look at the playoffs right now. Holtby - a Saskatchewan product - is looking incredible right now, and hopefully this is a sign that he will be a great goaltender in the future for Washington. Out in Los Angeles they have Jonathan Bernier, Minnesota has Josh Harding, Phoenix has Mike Smith (never thought I'd include him on a list of primo Canadian goaltenders) and there's Brian Elliott in St. Louis...

Canada definitely doesn't have the top-tier goaltending talent America and Finland has but we have a lot of guys who are or will be starters in the league for years to come, so I think between that and our superiority in all other areas of the game... we'll be doing just fine in the future.

Hope Crosby, Staal, Neil, Letang all join Team Canada...but not Fleury Lol.

Huge win by the Flyers. Claude Giroux is a beast.

All this damned talk about American netminders. My biggest hope for one from Minnesota finally ATM is Mike Lee, from Roseau, same town Byfuglien came out of. Kid is a beast. I watched him single handedly bring the Rams to State, which is the biggest tournament in the country, of any sport. He is very gifted. He also led the USA to gold at the IIHF World Juniors. Coyotes signed him recently after he played in the WCHA for SCSU, a university very close to my family.

Others are there but like running backs in the NFL, you just never know what will happen.

Tonight - let's go Kings. :angels:

The Boyle hit I was referring to:

It's hard for me to watch because I took a similar hit the last year I was playing organized hockey. We were not all Pink Team about concussions back then (10 years) either, so I played the rest of that year even though I had headaches everyday. Fucking looking back at it now I know It was a concussion but I think I had another one as well. BUT....I handed some out as well in my time (best believe I threw some BIG effin hits for sure).

Tough ass game. I just hope they don't go all Pink Team on us and put the "STOP" patches on the back of jerseys.

Leave it brutal, that's partly why I love it.

This LA/Van game is intense. This whole playoffs has seemed REALLY fast paced - HUGE hits, big scorers, goaltending differences.

Not sure if it is Quick or Schneider who gets beat first this game is so intense. I think maybe, just maybe LA get's their first series win since '01. Can't believe it's been that long.

Game on...
