This may be true, but I think Finland deserves to be mentioned along with the Americans in terms of goaltending, and that they may even be slightly superior (very slightly).
Don't get me wrong, the Americans are stacked when it comes to goaltending; Jonathan Quick is unquestionably one of the best goaltenders in the world and Cory Schneider is amazing and will be a superstar starting goaltender next season, but Tim Thomas (despite how good he is) is aging, Ryan Miller has regressed considerably and is nowhere near the goaltender he was when he was the starter for Team USA at the Olympics in Vancouver (at which time he was probably the best goaltender in the world), I'm not sold on Jimmy Howard (even though he had a really good year), and Craig Anderson can be unbelievably good on any given night (like yesterday), but his numbers are far from impressive (both this year and in his career).
The Finns have got Pekka Rinne (who led the league in wins this season and may be the best goaltender in the world, in my opinion), Antti Niemi (a Stanley Cup winning goaltender), Nicklas Backstrom (one of the league's most unappreciated talents), Kari Lehtonen (who was brilliant this season for the Stars), and Miikka Kiprusoff (who has been a stellar starting goaltender in the NHL for nearly a decade). I would take any of those five over Miller, Howard, and Anderson without blinking. Both sides have a top guy that any team would kill to have, but I honestly think that the Finns would have more dependable backups on an Olympic roster, for instance.
That's just my opinion, and I certainly do not think that any person who believes that the Americans have the best goaltending is out to lunch, because that is certainly a well-warranted opinion.
