The Lightning should be thinking about adding Hedman and a decent Swedish D-man <Mattias Ohlund is available> to mentor the kid. Those two alone could improve the backend a bunch. Play the hell out of Hedman like LA or TO did with Doughty & Schenn last season.

This trading Vinny and cutting salary will only look like a white flag and kill interest in the team. Garbage.

we have a few good D-men, Krajicek, Smaby, Ranger. we dressed nearly 20 different defensemen last year due to injuries. that royally screwed us.

i would like it if we could get Victor Hedman. i hope the Islanders don't take him.

The islanders wants a big time star that's going to bring more people to the arena so it seems highly unlikely that they would pick hedman first . Tavares is the clear cut best fit for that organisation and Hedman is the best fit for Tampa .But who knows anything can happen , there is even a rumor that Matt Duchene might be going first overall.

I didn't know Mauser was a Bolts fan.

I know about his love/worship of you-know-who, but the Lightning? That came out of nowhere. I never would have predicted that he lives in Tampa.

TORONTO -- Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Brian Leetch and Luc Robitaille have been elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame Tuesday.

New Jersey Devils President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello has been selected for induction in the Builders category.

Ceremonies for the 2009 Induction Class are set for Nov. 9.

Cam Ward is basically the only other goalie I can see getting the 3rd spot and as of now, Marc-Andre Fleury should be ahead of him. We'll have to see how they're playing next season.

Seriously? Why? That just sounds crazy to me. Crosby didn't even get on the team his first chance and he is 3x the players those guys are. Plus Iginla and Staal both have Olympic experience and it's not like they are old or on the downside of their careers. They are matchup nightmares for the opposition.

Even if Canada had two teams, I don't think I'd put Stamkos on there. Toews maybe. Stamkos is a year or two away from being an elite Canadian player.

chris draper?
dan cleary?
draper is probably the best faceoff guy in the league
cleary is the hardest working 2nd or 3rd liner in the league

My bet is:

1) John Tavares (NY Islanders)
2) Victor Hedman (TB Lightnings)
3) Matt Duchesne (COL Avalanches)

It's pretty unoriginal as it's how those players are ranked but, eh, i'm not expecting surprises this year for the top 3 picks.

I'm getting quite nervous as the draft is approaching , I think we may have to witness the death of the Tampa Bay Lightning if they trade Lecavalier. And If they trade him to montreal I think i'm gonna be sick.

The Flyers, not the Capitals, will be the Boston Bruins' opponent for next season's NHL Winter Classic, to be played at Fenway Park on Jan. 1, league sources told the Delaware County Times.

The NHL reportedly wanted the Capitals and star Alex Ovechkin to participate in the game. But NBC, the league's broadcast partner, told the league that it preferred the Flyers, because the Philadelphia-based team is likely to draw better television ratings and ad revenue.

The disappointing ratings NBC got for the Capitals-Rangers playoff series are believed to be part of the reason NBC preferred the Flyers, Boston radio station WEEI reported on its web site.

The NHL relented and agreed to have the Flyers participate, the County Times reports.

The NHL would not confirm the report. A spokesman told the Philadelphia Daily News, "We'll announce the schedule on July 15 and then the mystery will be solved."
