Newest 3DS releases

After a pretty quiet lull since Yokai Watch, the 3DS has 2 major releases this week: Fire Emblem Fates & Project X-Zone 2!

Everyone's talking about FE, so I'll start with PXZ2. For those who don't know, this is the 3rd instalment of a series that combines franchises from Capcom, Sega and Namco/Bandai. Just by the cover you can see this includes games like:
Street fighter
Virtua Fighter
Tekken
Megaman
Devil May Cry
.hack
Ace Attorney
...and just way too many to mention. You can see the full list here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_X_Zone_2
It's a tactical RPG with crazy action sequences and best of all, a fully voiced storyline!

FE:Fates is the sequel to Awakening which did really well. So well that the Amiibos for the characters pretty much sold out everywhere.
The game is actually THREE games, Conquest & Birthright which are sold as separate physical games, and the Digital only Revelations. They appear to be legit standalone games (unlike say, Pokemon), which feature different sides of an ongoing war, with Revelations serving as the conclusion.
The series is a pioneer of Tactical RPGs going all the way back to 1990. Recently the series is famous for its marriage concept where you can choose characters to marry each other, and then their time-travelling child becomes a playable character.

Anyone else having a hard time to decide which game to get?

I'm tossing around the idea of picking up the Megaman Legacy collection myself. Even though I own most of the original 6 games on NES.

I'm looking for a classic style RPG too. I wasn't impressed with the demo of Bravely Default. But I hear the game is really good. Hmm...

I'm currently playing Bravely Default (about 35 hours into it) and it's a very good RPG that definitely quenches the classic, JRPG thirst. But if you didn't like the demo then it's hard to say if you'll like the overall game. I never played the demo so I'm not sure how much it actually covers but I'd say if you enjoyed Final Fantasy V, then you'll really like BD

I loved FF5, I will probably have to give it another look. I'm looking for a couple RPGs for the 3DS that have an old school feel to them. I'm playing the Adventure Bar Story demo right now, and dumped about an hour into it so far. Its not as terrible as I thought. I MIGHT pick it up. Its only like 6 bucks or something.

Any other recommendations?

I've been thinking about picking up Fantasy Life. Apparently it's kind of like Animal Crossing mixed with Final Fantasy

I never played Animal Crossing, but it sure is popular. To be honest, I'm not sure what kind of game it is.

I got AC:New Leaf as a reward, probably wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

It's a life sim: you're the mayor of a town so you there's a little city building (if you can call it that), but the majority is checking with your residents, helping them out, and grinding for funds to get more stuff, for both you (items, clothing) and the city (flowers, trees, etc).

The interaction is surprisingly good and you can develop an attachment to the residents. Best to play a couple minutes a day over a long period. But if you're looking for a game where you rush in and race to get all the collectibles... this is not what you want.

Adventure Bar caught my eye too. Good thing they had he demo or else I wouldn't have bothered to try. Might be worth a sale price. Did you end up buying it?

Speaking of which, there is a sale on the Japanese Rail Sims which are going for around $4. This is a VERY niche market and you'll definitely want to try the demo before committing. I'm going to say 90%+ of Western gamers are going to hate it. But for those who like trains going through the countryside, or have fond memories of riding the rails in Japan, this is actually a cool way to relax. The 3D scenery is actual footage and takes you through the Japanese suburbs/countryside.

You know, I haven't picked it up yet. If the price is still down, or it goes on sale, I just might. Its was sorta OK. It was cooking AND classic RPG stuff. I think I might get it.

And yeah, the rail simulator.. I tried the demo. I was impressed with the graphics. I'm going to try it again. I couldn't drive the train properly, but I'm gonna try it again later.

When I first heard about a Restaurant RPG, I thought of that Robot Chicken Episode where Cloud works at a Burger Joint. Best. Skit. Ever.
Did you see it?

The Train simulator takes some getting used to. I can't count how many times I overshot the station since there's no real indication on when to start slowing down. Once you clear the game there's a mode that lets you run the entire line without getting evaluated so you can focus on the scenery.

I just picked up Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D today. Tried 2 levels already, and I'm happy to say its at least a little challenging. I always worry its going to be too easy, like the recent Mario games.

The "normal" mode for DKCR3D is an easier version than the original DKCR. You could always try the "real" difficulty mode if you're finding it too easy, which is closer to the Wii release.

I just beat it finally today on difficult without buying anything from Cranky. That game was pretty fucking tough. I was surprised. Popped in Tropical Freeze today on Wii U to celebrate!

There's a cool Humble Bundle right now for anyone with a 3DS/wii
https://www.humblebundle.com/friends-of-nintendo-3ds-wiiu

Pay $1 or more to unlock
Retro City Rampage: DX (3DS)
Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U)
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse (Wii U, 3DS)

Pay more than the average to also unlock!
Freedom Planet (Wii U)
Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure (3DS)
Citizens of Earth (Wii U or 3DS)
Retro City Rampage: DX Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu Theme (3DS)

Pay $13 or more to also unlock!
Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition (3DS)
Darksiders II (Wii U)

Average is around $9.75 if you're not interested in SFIV/DarkSiders. If you have both 3DS & WiiU I'd say it's a no brainer for the $13.
I'm not a STEAM user, so deals like these are pretty cool for me when they come for consoles.

At the very least, Shantae for $1 is a must. Whether you want to go for the next level depends on if you liked Earthbound, since Citizens of Earth is a Parody of that game.
Rhythm Thief is interesting if you want to try games like Harmoknight with the art style of the Layton series.

And if you need one more push, whatever you buy, you can choose how much goes to Charity & the developers!

Congrats! That's a pretty hard thing to do (That's what she said...)

Interesting. I already snagged Retro City Rampage. For the price, it was amusing. For a bit. :p

Don't know if people are raving about RCR, but for $1 everyone is jumping on Shantae.
