New York Plans to Ban Sale of Big Sizes of Sugary Drinks

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.

The proposed ban would affect virtually the entire menu of popular sugary drinks found in delis, fast-food franchises and even sports arenas, from energy drinks to pre-sweetened iced teas. The sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle — would be prohibited under the first-in-the-nation plan, which could take effect as soon as next March.

No, if the fast food places in NY are like the majority of them here in Cal, they have free refills (either self service or ask at counter) So you'll just get a smaller cup and make more refill trips.

What the fuck is the matter here? The people of NYC let this guy serve a second term and change the rules to let him serve a 3rd term. Fucking guy wanted to put toll booths on the Brooklyn Bridge. When that shit failed he wanted to set up tolls to go into lower Manhattan. $12 for a car, $25 for a truck. People gotta make deliveries down there. How much would a slice of pizza be if they would have let that shit go through. How does he travel in and out of Manhattan? His helicopter.

16 oz drinks banned in restaurants. Say you order a soda at TGIF. How much ice is in the cup? What if I have a group. We can't have a pitcher of soda but we can have a pitcher of beer? Say me and my girl just want to split a soda. So a 20 oz is no good? How do you regulate this? Cup police? Are they going to stand watch looking to see what beverage is served in what size glass? Remember what he said, juices and diet drinks have no restrictions.

I hate this mother fucker more than Rachel Maddows hates Bush. We all know about his anti smoking thing. Let's go years back to when Rudy came to town to celebrate his bachelor party.
