Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
As much as I don't like the idea of messing with the Rep system as it works right now, only because it seems ridiculous to keep changing it, resetting it, bitching about it, complaining about it etc... We are not in control of it so it should have been adjusted to whatever the MODS wanted it in the 1st place (or should I say whatever PETRA thought was acceptable) Not saying this is Petra's fault, I'm just saying before the current system was put in place Reps worth should have been adjusted to a reasonable point value, that said, changing it just makes the members upset or excited and pits both sides against one another, I voted for 500 cuz it was an estimate already given and its the highest possible from what our original values would be, but in other, I think either leave like it is and live with it, or if it has too be adjusted, I think half of our current total would be fair, so 8 million would be adjusted to 4 million, just my :2 cents:

P.s. I thought REP power was ridiculous and excessive @ 1st but since I've gained a bit, and always give it back, I don't see why its a problem.. :dunno: whatever, I voted in the 1st poll but I didn't post a reply in the original poll because I didn't think it would be fair to totally reset it in the 1st place, so I decided not to bother saying anything, and I figured I would settle with whatever the almight MODS decide too do, but since it was announced that Rep would be ADJUSTED and NOT reset, I thought I would share my opinion this time, not that I think I'm special in anyway, I just didn't want to argue with my reasoning etc.... sorry for the length of this post. allot of explanation for something that's controversial.

Every rep point should be worth the result of the following equation:

48÷2(9+3) = ???

:elaugh:

If you really meant 48÷2*(9+3)

then 288 (PEMDAS)

But the expression is awfully notated. Try:

or

it should be written as 48/(2(9 + 3)). That ****** the multiplication to be performed before the division.

I agree, it should have been adjusted in the first place. What most people don't realize though is bits and bobs have been added to the system over the past 5 years by the developers of the board software and the plugins that allow more control over rep (like setting a cap as to how much someone can hand out) wasn't even released until about a year ago!

I understand now.. I think cutting our Rep power in half would be fair... or have a cap limit for the members with the highest Rep totals.. instead of a member with 9 million Rep being worth 90K of Rep power make their Rep power like 25K @ most..

So the Cap would kick in if a member has 2.5 million anything over, the Cap limit kicks in and there maximum Rep power would be 25K.. all members under 2.5 million rep would have the 500 value system working.. I don't know the math @ the moment but the 1st choice you offered where 8 million would equal 1.5 million.

1,000 don't seem bad to me - just because I like it being deduced easily, but actually I don't care about it. Do whatever you consider as right. I am not a big fan of changes, but I can live with this one without loosing a good mood.

Please Petra don't touch anything!!!.

Dude, if she had a dollar for every time she heard that, she'd be so damned rich....

Hahahahaha.

Well, **** to say it, but rep will be adjusted and a cap put on it. I know that those who care more about rep than their first born ***** (or wife, cat, dog, goldfish...) will have to question their self worth since it revolves solely around how much reputation they have...but the earth will keep spinning and they'll **** to use FreeOnes another day. :)

to be honest, i wish i had never given out any rep, and i wish i had never received any rep, because i'd still be the exact same person i am to day, it doesnt mean anything in the scheme of life

Hoorah!

There is a fundamental inequity on the board ... example: me.

I've been here five months (excluding banishment), got a 6 mill+ rep (earned honestly:D) .. but is it right that, a n00b like me, should be able to shred a more established member's rep by virtue of the fact I happened to have written more things in my short time that people have liked enough to rep under a system that hands out incrementally massive rep?

I say .. NO.

Sure, there are reasons many more established members have lower rep (for instance, they are flaming assholes) ... or, they simply don't partake in threads that tend to garner a higher post-to-rep rate, or are simply not rep whores ....

But it can't be right that, rep-wise, I wield as much power in my short time as someone who has been contributing and building this board for years before I even found this place?

I think that one of the factors to be built into whatever rep equation we end up with, is some acknowledgment of length of service (maybe factored against infractions) .... someone may not be popular, but if they have been supporting and contributing to this board for years, surely that also needs as much recognition as the simple day-to-day popularity rep votes?
