After having just retired Scott Steven's jersey, the first in franchise history, the Devils goalie, Martin Brodeur, notched up his 100th career shutout. I must say, Brodeur just impresses me more and more. Pretty much every time he steps on the ice he shows his worth. Quite a great night for Jersey fans.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Judging from their performance Friday night, maybe the New Jersey Devils should schedule a few more jersey retirement ceremonies.

After they made former defenseman Scott Stevens the first player in franchise history to have his number retired, the Devils played one of their best games of the season in a 3-0 shutout of Carolina, the team with the NHL's best record.

It was a game Stevens, who captained the Devils to Stanley Cup championships in 1995, 2000 and 2003, would have loved: the Devils clamping down in the neutral zone, converting on their scoring chances and getting another stifling performance from goaltender Martin Brodeur.

The Canadian Olympian became the third goalie in NHL history to reach 100 overall shutouts.
