Nelson Mandela released 20 years ago today

The great man was released 20 years ago today , I can remember where I was when this happened , it semed like the whole world stopped to watch the man being freed after being held prisoner for 27 years for trying to overthrow an aparthied government in S.Africa

The world could learn so much from this man:hatsoff:

I realised today he was put in jail in my birthyear... and was set free finally when I was 25. This gave me a chill. It puts a new, frightening perspective to this... I can't really grasp how it would feel if I would have to spend that time behind bars for just being who I am.

I remeber when he made his trip to wash dc for the first time after his release from jail. I was there @ the capitol.

Only one day after Douglas beat Tyson. There has to be a secret connection. A Ladbrokes insider reveals this story on Newsnight:

On February 6, 1990, South African president F.W. de Clerk bet 4 bazillion rand he had "borrowed" from the country's budget on a Tyson win in first three rounds hoping for a little extra income on the side.

When de Clerk realized that he had sunk the nation into financial ruin he had to think of a way out quickly. Eureka! Let's release this Mandela guy from prison and hand over power to the Coloured. Let them deal with the economic mess ahead.

Out of sheer desperation he divorced his beloved but poor wife and went oot of his way to marry a widow from Mozambique because he knew he could sell off her linnen on Ebay. All for the welfare of the country.

Yeah its a long time to be imprisoned and for him to come out and be such a well balanced man , with no bitterness well if he does hes hid it well
