Nascar?

I used to watch it, up until about 5 years ago. It has simply become much too "corporatized" for my liking. Seemingly, everything that pops up on the screen is accompanied with some form of SPAM or advertisement.

The sport has become one giant rolling billboard ! The recognition of the corporation has surpassed that of the talent of the drivers.

but hell the money is good.

My beef with Nascar is that out of the 43 drivers, there are only about 7 that have a legit shot at winning the race and the rest are just taking up space. Jimmie Johson seems to win every race nowadays, and I don't know about know, but I remember he used to drive all of Jeff Gordon's old cars. I get the feeling that if you put a decent driver in one of Jimmie Johnson's car, he will win the race.

I agree with that. Although I would put the number closer to 10-15 drivers right now. The 12 in the Chase, plus maybe Newman, Truex, Jr., and possibly Kurt Busch. The rest do just take up space.

"Winning" is nice for the fanfare and sponsorships, yet

consistent top ten placement(s) give a more precise indication of team direction.

Favorite tracks anybody ?

I like the plain, "every man for himself" type of track, like Richmond, Loudon New Hampshire and Phoenix. I'm not a big "drafting" fan. :D

Isn't that how Kenseth won the championship once? Without winning a race alll year?

Sounds familiar. That is a truism, correct ?
Terry Labonte won his final championship, I forget the year, with only two victories, if I recall correctly.

I miss the CART Series back in the day - Al Unser Jr, Paul Tracy, Michael Andretti, Jacques V, Alex Zanardi - The infamous "doughnuting" red TARGET car.

Not a big fan of it. Sometimes I'll flip by it and stop and stare for a bit like it's a bad accident. Once you experience it live, there's no real point in watching it on tv anymore.

My favourite track is Bristol. It took my live Nascar virginity. And thats probably the last time I will ever see it live. But it was spectacular, didn't have all the idiotic commentators or anything, we could listen to the different teams convo's, the track thundered like mad. The crowd participation was the greatest of it all. Plus all the stuff you could do other than watch racing was an added bonus.

I was at Bristol when Tony Stewart put Jeff Gordon into the pit wall at the end of the race. The crowd was ELECTRIC! That was the best thing I've seen in Nascar.

NASCAR is not the same since Dale Sr. died. It is way too policed now. They do not allow any rivalries anymore. I do not watch it as much as I did before 2001.

Leah's Biggest Fan!
I watch it sometimes, but I just can't stand Darrell Waltrip anymore, dude is so fucking annoying, he makes me scream "SHUT UP" at my TV! I loved it after #3 died, when they had the silent 3rd lap, it was the only time the fucker shut up!

I was a big fan until I saw Dale Earnhardt die, then I lost interest. I do like Dale Jr. though and I watch the Daytona 500. Other than that, it's just the same 5 redneck assholes who win week after week.
