Congrats in order to 18-year old Hammasa Kohistani, who has made history by becoming the first Muslim contestant to be crowned Miss England.

As Miss England, Hammasa will enter the Miss World championships, which will be held in China at the end of 2005.
Good luck to her - prior to her being crowned, two Muslim community leaders stressed that Islam and beauty pageants were incompatible and also implied that those Muslims competing in the contest should be considered to have forsaken their faith (a total of four women with a Muslim background took part). And there are already fears of an "unpleasant reaction" from the less tolerant Islamic organisations.
