Michelle Gomez (born 23 November 1966)[1] is a Scottish actress. She is known for her comedy roles in The Book Group (2002–03), Green Wing (2004–07) and Bad Education (2012–13), as well as playing Missy – a version of The Master in the long running British science-fiction programme Doctor Who from 2014 to 2017, for which she was nominated for the 2016 BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Gomez was born in Glasgow to Tony and May Gomez. Her father is originally from Montserrat and is of Portuguese descent.[2][3][4][5] Her father was a photographer, and her mother ran a modelling agency. From the moment she saw a production of Kiss Me, Kate at the age of seven, Gomez wanted to be an actress, which her parents encouraged. She attended Shawlands Academy from 1978 to 1983 and trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
