Michael Steele: African-Americans "don't have a reason" to vote Republican

Truer words were never spoken.

Michael Steele: For Decades GOP Pursued 'Southern Strategy' That Alienated Minorities

Earlier this week, RNC Chairman Michael Steele told a group of 200 students at DePaul University that African-Americans "don't have a reason" to vote for Republican candidates.

During his remarks he also acknowledged that for decades the GOP pursued "'Southern Strategy' that alienated many minority voters by focusing on the white male vote in the South."

Steele was asked to explain why an African-American should vote Republican at a university-sponsored discussion on the conservative movement. The RNC chairman's response: "You really don't have a reason to, to be honest -- we haven't done a very good job of really giving you one. True? True."

Steele also discussed with students his own experience being the victim of racial discrimination -- a subject that the he has openly addressed in the past. Steele told TV One's Roland Martin in November that even some of his fellow Republicans are "scared" of him because of his race.

Steele acknowledged his party's failure to reach out and connect with African-Americans and other marginalized communities. "We have lost sight of the historic, integral link between the party and African-Americans," he explained.

Steele went on to make a candid statement about how the disconnect between Republicans and minorities is not new and has been a part of the party's strategy for years.

My Penis Is Dancing!
He is so right.
And looking at the pure filth regurgitated by some on the right on this board, it will be a long time before they ever do - if ever.

I guess we take this honesty from him to mean that he is on the way out of his leadership position?

I guess he will be replaced with someone from FixedNews? BillO the Clown perhaps?

That term African American really bugs me.
Anyway, I've voted Republican in the past. Never once did I even care about which race which party was reaching out to.

I wish black people stop using that silly word. I don't like being called an African American

Torn & Frayed.
Everyone I know who is African-American prefers to be called African-American.

...and everyone I know who is "African-American" sighs derisively at the sound of those words.

Oh boy.
Is this more playing the race card?
More playing the blame game?
More trying to cause racial divisiveness, racial problems in the country?
More of the democratic party divide, conquer and control methodology?
More trying to make blacks feel angry and hateful and whites feel guilty and scared?

yeah theres nothing like trying **** off a whole group/race of people for the sole reason of keeping your power, your lifestyle, your control over them and everybody actually.

please black americans, see this kind of stuff for what it is.
the democrats want to keep you/put you on welfare.

cause your just too stupid to make it on your own right?
Wrong.

Because if you are successful in life, you know what, you probably ain.t gonna vote for them!
Yep the welfare plantation, and feeding you a daily dose of victim mentality each day as your reward.
they are using you, exploiting you.
for their benefit.

"lets talk about how white folks discriminated against me"
"lets talk about how white folks are afraid of us"
" lets talk about how white people want to keep you down"
"lets **** you off so you vote for us"

I'm American, and I'm white, and this bothers me.
But if i was American, and black, it would bother me a whole lot more.

yep, they didn't create the disease, but they feed it, they keep it alive in your head, they keep it pumpin through your veins, and theyre gonna sell you the cure.

Don't buy it, its snake oil.

Well I gotta give it to the guy. Even though he knows that some people in his party are afraid of him and he knows that the Republican Party has isolated many minorities, He has not let that compromise his belief system and still stands firmly on the right. Talk about dauntless commitment. Are you watching Colin Powell?

Same here.

Why are the hell are we being called African-American?. I'm not from African I was born right here in the USA. I'm black dammit, and proud of it.

My ******'s side has African heritage, despite being white Africans, would that make me African-American on some level? Or do I have to be darker complexion to be considered?

 Well I'm thinking the concept is indigenous origin...not adopted nationality.

Most black people I know **** that term as well. They tell me that they'd rather be called black. Hell, even the word 'colored' can pass from time to time. From my understanding, as long as no one utters the "N" word(and not be black...I know, double standard), then everything is cool.

I have a neighbour who is from an irish ****** but grew up in South Africa... You are not the only one with that problem.

Of course, as I am living in Germany, things are different. The term 'Afro-European' or such is only used be people that are way too over-politically correct. Most people use 'Schwarzer' or 'Afrikaner' (Black / African). But as you see, ... African can mislead, too.

Ah, life is complicated.

Funny thing is: My grandmother fled from Eastern Prussia, with my ****** and two other ********.

They all refer to their home country as Eastern Prussia, still - btu that is Poland now, so I like to poke fun at ****** events and say I feel proud to be half-polish ^^

Being a "minority" myself, Hispanic, I should have no reason to vote Republican, after all, I keep hearing how Republicans want to kick out every single Hispanic because we're all here illegally. Bigger lies than that are hard to find. I did my research reading the platforms of both political parties, right off their own websites. The democrats make their platform look so cute and nice like they expect that just because they say something like "good jobs with good pay" it's magically going to happen, but reading between the lines I can't seem to find any logic to it, after all, getting you out of poverty is not up to the government but it's up to YOU, getting you a good job is not up to the government, it's up to what YOU have to offer an employer. What they say it's not exactly what they do, I mean, adding 40 million uninsured to government insurance will lower the deficit? Really?

The republican's position is more straight and to the point, no touchy feely wordings and I tend to agree with it mostly because it's straight, this, this, this, boom, boom, boom, unlike the democrats there's no beating around the bushes...oh, wait.

I guess the difference between democrats and republicans come to their style of writing, democrats with their touchy feely poetry and republicans with their no-nonsense prose. :D

Pretty funny stuff there R/S. Believe it or not..there may be more non Hispanics here illegally than Hispanics. Theoretically though, if you're an American citizen what bearing would extremist rhetoric on kicking out illegals have on you personally?

Without tackling your post point by point...you just criticized style over substance while accepting style over substance as your primary rationale for who you side with. No doubt about it, you are certainly a republican.:o

By the way, the calculus for adding people to some plan and ultimately saving money/cutting costs is a little more complex than your arithmetic above.
