Measures to warn about link reposting?

Would it be practical to make a system to check that before posting anything on a thread, none of the links that one has in the post already exist on the same thread or the babe page (if one is associated with the thread)? It could then inform about the would-be reposts and give the possibility of posting them regardless or further modifying one's post before submitting it. This should be displayed while previewing the post but it should also work if one just presses submit without previewing.

I have taken the habit of trying to avoid reposting links. Of course, checking is not much of a problem in small threads, but in large collection threads that have over 40 pages or so, it's starting to be rather tedious to see if the links have already been posted. I do use the thread search function in that case instead of manually going through it, but the search functionality always requires 20 seconds of downtime between searches and it might not work properly if one tries to search a full URL with it (basically if the URL has some differing html parameters or some other small differences, such as lacking the "www." part in the beginning of it). Additionally the search is occasionally rather slow, at least for me.

This results in the fact that one will have to select a representative substring of each of the URLs in the post and then see from the results if it is already there. That takes some more time. It's somewhat tedious to do it like this because I usually try to post the allowed 5 links in a single post, so I have to check all of them. The time it takes to check these things usually gets me sidetracked and then I end up not posting at all.

Maybe I should just come to my senses, forget this strenuous routine and post links whenever I find them without all this checking, or keep to posting one link at a time in larger threads.

Well, I just wanted to get this idea out of my head.

I also usually try to see if a link or "babe" has been posted but with the amount of links out there is nigh on impossible.

As an example
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but why do people consistently post 9 different links to the exact same pic sets every time a new one is released, meanwhile I'm sure most are still waiting on a link to the jacuzzi vid? Are people essentially just posting links to their own personal webpages just to get hits?

Actually you'll often find different pics in different free galleries even if they show the same shooting.

It would help if members who post links gave a brief summary of what is in the link.

i always try to give a brief summary (even if just a couple words) for that very same reason. sure, if a thread has 20+ pages, reposting is going to happen and it shouldn't be a big deal then because who wants to sift through that many pages just to find a URL or two. let's face it, searching the internet for porn can be time consuming enough without searching through threads :)
however, it gets a little annoying when someone posts a link that was already posted in the same or previous page let alone the times i've seen someone post a link immediately after someone else already posted it. i just have to wonder if those people even read the threads they're posting in, and if not, why bother posting? :dunno:

Sometimes you can search the thread for the link and see if it's there already

Say it's a penthouse gallery, search the thread for penthouse and see if it's already there.

You'll get a list of all the posts that have penthouse in the post or in the link. It works for me.

Sometimes though, people complain about repost when in actuality there are different pics even though it's the same base gallery.

Yes, that's equivalent to what I currently do before posting. I select the domain name from the URL I'm about to post and use a Google site search in addition to the board search function to try and find the exact link. Matter of fact, I usually enter the full URL to the Google search and many times that has been the best way to find existing links immediately. There's just the drawback that you can't search just some specific sub-forums or single threads with that. It will search everywhere on the board.

That might occasionally happen and even for a good reason whereas my posts are concerned. I am very thorough in checking a thread for a pre-existing link but I don't usually look at which of the pictures in the new link are already present in existing links, since that would take an insane amount of time on large threads. I'm just trying to concentrate on not re-posting the exact same URLs.
