Marvel Comics Kills Off Spider-Man, Replaces with Half-Black, Half-Hispanic teen

Halle Berry and Catwoman...though a bomb at the box office is not a good example of forcing PC through a character.

Firstly why that example is out of touch and off base IMO is for the following reasons;

1.) Halle Berry was one of the hottest (hot and in demand) 'actors' in Hollywood man or woman at the time. She had just come off of a string of highly successful movies...(in no particular order X-Men, Monster's Ball (Academy Award), Swordfish, Die Another Day, etc...).

2. One of the more iconic castings in the history of the Batman series was a black woman, Eartha Kit as Catwoman in the late '60s.

3.) Halle Berry's casting was a reprise of the iconic Eartha Kit casting.

4.) Far from a PC experiment if you know the history and some of the relevant details associated with the production and reprise. The producers apparently sought to capitalize on Halle's popularity and also the popularity of the superhero genre at the time. That particular one failed. It happens...had nothing to do with PC....good ideas can fall flat just as fast as a McDonalds in the wrong location.

5.) I stomached Catwoman and it was far from a 'ghetto' representation IMO (assuming we view the term in the same way).
& she was black in Batman Year One. . .

What makes ME laugh is the same people complaining about political correctness are the same peeps who are completely oblivious whenever a white actor is cast in the hero role in an asian themed movie:rolleyes:

the movie takes place in an asian country

there will be thousands of asians cast in the movie

but for some strange reason some random white guy is the hero or focus of the movie(last samurai comes to mind)

now that is hilarious!

The Last Samurai was retarded.

What do Asians and movies have to do with a thread about comic's and Spiderman? Also The Last Samurai was an Asian character played by a great Asian actor Ken Watanabe. Obviousely you have a gigantic stick up your ass about Asians in movies so maybe you should go start a thread about that.

first lemme start of by saluting you and welcoming you to freeones :thefinger

secondly it has plenty to do with what guys like you are complaining about

Which brings us to door #3: i just used asians and movies of an example of what is known as "White Washing"

i used that example because they seem to get shafted the most when it comes to "White Washing"

which is basically the reverse of what you call "Forced Political Correctness" i.e. bringing a little diversity into the mix

if anyone sounds like they have a stick up their ass its you

you obviously didnt read the part about it being ultimate spiderman in an alternate universe:rolleyes:

damn noobs

Will E Worm

Conspiracy...
&. . .having read Batman Year One & making a comment regards Catwoman in that publication is hardly the same as banging on about earth 616 or god knows what!. . .

No, it makes you someone who knows what they're talking about as opposed to the avg. reader. Same as anyone else who provided info about the subject in this thread. Ergo, if someone who provided info is a nerd then so are you!:kettle:

Whyyy thank you for the welcome. I'll ignore your little douche bag condescending tone. I was making a general statement about what happens when people try to change traditional characters for politically correct purposes and used a terrible movie as an example. If you really believe switching ethnicity brings diversity than you should be happy that White actors get to play Asian characters after all we are just bringing diversity into the mix. Unless maybe you were thinking that diversity applies to everyone but white people. You weren't thinking that were you? After all that would just make you a bigot. FYI You Might want to pull that PC stick out of your ass it looks like it's turning into a tree.

C'mon Zolf, you can do better than that. He just ripped you a new asshole.

A) no he didnt. I was just too baked and beyond giving a fuck to respond with anything else :D

B) Get off his nuts

your little buddy fails to release that ultimate spiderman isn't a traditional character

its obvious that he belongs to the group that knows absolutely dick about comics until a new movie comes out

he seems to think that a minor tweak in a relatively unpopular alternate story arc is a sign of the apocolpyse

I guess he thinks Tchalla, Blade and Storm are a part of some PC agenda as well

dont worry your little heads. 95% of all comic book characters are still white

so things are still alright

no need to freak out when a guy sporting a jerry curl graces the front cover of a comic.

...but this isn't the traditional spider-man this is the ultimate spider-man...the traditional peter parker spider-man is still going strong in that comic

That is a very valid point and you are very correct that ultimate Spiderman is a different universe. However to me the character of Spiderman , in and of itself, will always be traditional. The universe may change but he willl always be a traditional character with his origins going back decades. The point I was trying to make and I may have done a piss poor job in explaining it was that my frustration(and sarcasm) is that instead of pushing to create a universe of new and compelling characters for modern times, they just keep screwing with the already established characters. Whenever they try to change a characters fundamental structure for no other reason then to try and pander to a new demographic, to me, that just smacks of Political correctness, lazy writing, and alot of greed. Especially when you consider the times we live in and the abundant amount of rich story material that could be used for new characters. Just my honest opinion which as opinions go is not worth much.

There you go again making this a racial issue. Unlike you I never attacked any particular ethnicity what I did was attack the concept of political correctness in comics. You on the other hand came out all ass hurt against white people. I would have thought that a guy who smokes pot would be much more mellow and at peace with everyone. Either way whatever your issue is I suggest you change your bong water, put down the comic book, and go outside. Maybe if you made some friends and got laid once in a while you wouldn't be such a bitter asshole.
