Hoo-ah! What a show! What a show! What. A. SHOW!!
That was
totally worth the ticket price. Totally worth the mad rush hour traffic. Totally worth the crowds and the damned lines at the restrooms [trust me. When you get to my age, climbing stairs every time you gotta pee is a pain in the ass]
What a lovely concert! A good eclectic mixture of Mark's solo stuff and some solid numbers from his dIRE sTRAITS era. And it was absolutely lovely to catch Danny Cummings and Guy Fletcher again.
Mark Started off with Cannibals. Then he switched over to What It Is and Sailing to Philadelphia.
A soulful (and reworked) rendition of Hill Farmer Blues. I'm glad he extended it - the version on "Ragpicker's Dream" is woefully short and inadequate. A lovely rendition of "Romeo and Juliet" - though I admit I missed hearing the sax on this one. Actually, I missed the presence of the sax throughout; it'd have been a far more intense concert IMHO.
An extended version of Marbletown as well - thoroughly enjoyable (loved the duet betwixt the Irish Fiddle and Guitar).
A rip-roaring version of "Speedway at Nazareth".
And he brought the house down with a thunderous version of "Telegraph Road".
The crowd was in awe. We were on our feet. A standing ovation for a full 4 minutes...
... and Mark and Co. graciously obliged the crowd by coming back for an encore of four songs - including an extended version of Brothers In Arms.
And. After the concert, Mark hung around to speak/chat/shake hands with the crowd. Wife and I shook hands, I doffed the ol' topper and thanked him for a wonderful show; gentleman to gentleman.
Truly memorable.
 Mark! Can't wait for the next one...
