Original, symbolic and religious meanings has been pretty much destroyed and marriages seems to be nothing more than one of those cool party things what people think that would be just nice to experience once in a life time.

Do some research on the origin of marriage. it was ownership plain and simple so that when men went off to battle their woman was obligated to remain waiting for them, and due to the church being the actual government it allowed for punishment for any act of adultery by the woman. It gave men security over their possession while allowing them to do as they wished. Did you know that in certain places right here in the USA it was legal to sell your wife at public auction as recently as the early 1900's? Marriage has become far MORE meaningful in the last century than it ever was. Prior to that it was nothing more than a license of ownership no different than the license we have these days for our dogs.
It was a way of getting in-laws, of making alliances and expanding the family labor force. in the bible many of the men had multiple wives so love had nothing to do with marriage in the beginning. To this day marriage is arranged in many cultures so that families can combine to become stronger and provide security for their daughter in exchange for her having children.
