Man shot up to 28 times with Taser by Australian police

I'm not ready to be outraged over this. The man was on Meth. Meth is the devil. Meth addicts have been known to go on rampages and turn over cars all by themselves. In light of that, It could have been necessary to shock the man like that to get him into custody before he hurt some innocent bystander.

What's the worse problem? Hardcore drug addicts running amok and maybe hurting or killing the blameless or police accidently killing them before that happens?

It really is a world wide trend now it seems. Maybe we should move to a happy island, like Hawaii or somewhere.

HAVE BEEN KNOWN?!? COULD HAVE BEEN NECESSARY?!? MAYBE?!?
:nono:
& its frightening that there are no guidelines for how many times a cop can fire his taser at a 'suspect'. Thugs with laserguns!!! :(

The story itself is a one sided one. What can I do but say "could have" and "maybe"? These are the questions that should be asked. If all the facts, if the details of the entire circumstance aren't made available.

If you were standing in the path of a charging drug addled, frantic and aggitated individual, would you want the only policeman involved to stop and wonder whether or not he might kill the guy with his taser in an effort to stop him? What if it wasn't you, but your kids? Your wife? Girlfriend? Mother?

What if the tazer doesn't work the first time. Or the second. Should he give up. Just let the guy jump on you and tear your arms off?

It also very well COULD HAVE BEEN a malfunction in the equipment, causing it to read that it had been shot up to 28 times.

While the heart attack could have been triggered by electric shock, the man was on a drug that wreaks havoc with the circulatory system. so there's that to take into account as well.

I'm not happy the guys dead. I think it's a lesser evil that if anyone were to die, it's him. A drug addict. Not an innocent. Not a police officer with a family.

I do understand what you are saying. Drugs can make people really strong and they tend to fight. I am just going on what I read. Even shocking a person 5 times can be to much. Many people on drugs have been shocked and didn't die. I guess an autopsy will help determine how he died. I hope that it did malfunction, if not then that officer needs to be fired.:2 cents:

Maybe the companies that make these little monsters can put some more money into research and development now. The designers and the ones who accept the design are the ones responsible for the effects of their use.

drug addicts don't have families?!? & how do you know the police officers have families?!?

You're just knitpicking my argument, man.

Of course the late fellow from the story probably had a family. But where were they when he was getting high? Getting wrecked? Being the escapist? I'm sure they knew, if they were around. If they cared? And if he cared enough about them, he might have tried to change his situation, and this whole unfortunate ordeal might have never happened.

The police might not have had wives, husbands, kids. That doesn't change the fact that they're still mostly just working class guys and gals doing thier best in a scarey situation. What's the point in demonizing? Could you do better?

If so, then why aren't you?

People generalizing these few cases are sad. Police officers are normal everyday people. Not to mention being a police officer can be a very stressful job.

Theres always going to be a small percentage of them going through the roof or abusing their power, and the media is going to continue to blow these cases out of proportion.

"Police, guaranteed to abuse their power the world over!"

If thats a joke, its not funny

Its not a joke, & its not funny! The Police are institutionally corrupt the world over it seems!
& how are the media blowing out of proportion as you put it cases of the police going through the roof or abusing their power. That sort of behaviour is pretty serious if you ask me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! & needs to be rooted out & dealt with properly not just swept under the carpet with those responsible not given the proper punishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eh?!? I never claimed to be able to do better, & whether I can or not is not important. The police have got an easy ride over the years, abusing their powers left right & centre, getting away with murder! (in some cases literally), fitting up 'suspects', beating up innocent people, taking backhanders etc. They have thought of themselves as above the law, its about time the bad apples were torn from the tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are these police forces trying to out do each other, by trying to stun people the most number of times and survivng? Could this be a new world record perhaps?
