SHREVEPORT, La. – Caddo Parish District 3 Commissioner Michael Williams doesn't care to see people in their PJs, at least not at a shopping center, restaurant or anywhere else in public.

Williams said after seeing a group of young men at a local Walmart wearing pajama pants that revealed one young man's private parts, he decided to push for an ordinance that would prohibit wearing pajama pants in public.

"Pajamas are designed to be worn in the bedroom at night," Williams said. "If you can't (wear pajamas) at the Boardwalk or courthouse, why are you going to do it in a restaurant or in public? Today it's pajamas," Williams said. "Tomorrow it's underwear. Where does it stop?"

Khiry Tisdem, of Shreveport, has no problem going out in his "Family Guy" Stewie pajama pants.

"I wear my (pajama) pants anywhere," Tisdem said. "I'm an American, and I can wear my clothes anywhere I want. I'm a grown man. I pay my own bills, so I can wear my clothes the way I want. I don't know why it's an issue."

Tracy Carter, also of Shreveport, was out shopping Thursday with her 3-year-old son, Aaron — she in her Valentine's Day fuzzy pajama pants and Aaron in dinosaur pajamas.

"We all wear our pajamas out," Carter said. "I can get out of the bed and go to the store, and they're covering everything. I've got a 3-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 12-year-old to deal with."

One problem with a possible ordinance is what constitutes pajamas. Williams said it could be defined as a garment sold in the sleepwear section of department stores, and violators should not go to jail but perform community service.

"It's going to be very difficult to enforce the way it's described, although I've not seen anything in writing," Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator said.

The city of Shreveport has a no-sagging law. In 2011, Shreveport police reported 31 incidents involving "wearing of pants below the waist in public." Most of those were unattached to other more serious crimes, and the offenders were issued misdemeanor summons, police spokesman Bill Goodin said.

Caddo Parish Attorney Charles Grubb said adopting a parishwide ordinance similar to that of Shreveport police's is a possibility. Prator said he has not known the pajama pants issue to be a problem in the parish.

Williams plans to poll his fellow commissioners in February, which he hopes will lead to introducing an ordinance.

What an idiot! Some of the cutest looks on women is when they are wearing PJs in public. When they wear the sweatpants with "PINK" printed on their bum, I feel it gives me an excuse to look at their ass!

On top of that, just because this asshole feels he's the All-American Go Getter he should be able to tell people what's acceptable to wear!? Fucking douche. I love the feeling of waking up in the morning on a day off, walking over to McDonald's in my pajamas and getting breakfast! It's kind of liberating

This is people being lazy with little to no regard for their apperance.

I dont know about a law being inacted to prevent people entering public establishments in PJ's is the right call. I would think that businesses such as Wal-Mart would have had dress codes established already and reserved the right to refuse services or admittance like most resturants.

I know personally I wouldnt like to see someone out in PJ's but im sure the people of the 1940's would have called me a slob for not wearing a hat and a tie while walking down a public street.

No problem... Stores already place signs that say "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service". All they have to do now is insert, "NO FUCKING SAGGING OR PAJAMAS ALLOWED!"

Is it a big problem in Louisiana? :1orglaugh

Not as big as the teen pregnancy and high school drop-out problems in LA, but social conservatives love to spend their time (and our money) addressing non-problem problems... superficial, dumb shit. It gives them something else to shout and complain about. Addressing complex, real issues is way over their (empty) heads and beyond their abilities.

I used to have to go to Shreveport quite often. It's not a horrible place. But it's also not a place where I'd want to live or spend more than a few days.

Ha. Way to leave your mark on society. The guy that tried banning pajamas.

People that care what other people wear need to get a life.

And just where in my post did I say that he was a Republican? I haven't edited anything. Read it again and point it out. Give up?

I guess in addition to not knowing the difference between Communism and Socialism, you also don't know that "social conservative" does not (always) equal Republican. More than a few Evangelical Christians in my area are social conservatives... and Democrats.

I guess he saw this commercial & said HELL NO!

 I find it trashy and tacky to wear pajamas in public. I don't necessarily think that there should be legislature against it, but some sort of a deterrent would be great.
