That was a little uncalled for. Jesus, I mean...yeah, she kinda kicked her shoe at him, but that doesn't warrant a punch to the face.

american policemen are not softies. I will agree that the guy overreacted and abused of his physical force but when you deal with a law enforcement officer especially in the USA, you have to be careful and be on your guards.

That was a LOT uncalled for. I would have been fired, sued, jailed, sued, and probably fired again for good measure if I'd done something like that to one of my prisoners while I was a cop.

I mean hell, she kicked a shoe at him. Be fucking bigger than that, man. Warn her, and if she stays aggressive, gets more aggressive, what have you, go in there and cuff her. Beating the shit out of someone who's already in custody, when they aren't actually attacking you is bad for the rest of us who don't act like colossal asshats.

This is the stuff that makes being a police officer difficult. I'm glad I don't do it anymore.

Vouch dude - Cops piss me off more and more as I get older.

Vouch dude - Cops piss me off more and more as I get older.

Why in particular?

Since I've left that job, I'm not very big on all the posturing and such you get from them on traffic stops and all that. But then, I don't really interact with them too much because I don't break the law, and don't go to places where cops generally end up to throw their weight around (i.e. bars)

I find as I get older that criminals piss me off more and more. There's nothing so totally fucking annoying as someone who would steal my shit, break into my cars/house, or want to cause me harm just because...

But then, I never was your typical cop, either. I think prostitution and weed should be de-criminalized and regulated. :dunno:

I have the utmost respect for honest hard working police that do their job without taking advantage of their authourity and do their job in a professional manner. helping and protecting people.. but we all know that police are often guilty of doing this type of :bs: we saw in that video along with allot of other types of unjust things cops do..

The police saved my life in the past! so I am grateful for that.. I respect police for the job they do!:hatsoff: too good police!!

Crooked and uptight douche bag asshat cops gets..:thefinger..etc..

Yes- cops like the ones in the video make it harder for the good cops, because the bad cops get all the media time, so that's what people think cops do.

It's sad.

perhaps that policeman should be beaten with a baseball bat for making him feel what it feels to be beaten violentely.

Do you think that's why they call shoes "kicks" in some parts of the country?

I also respect policemen. They have a very dangerous job but this was absolutely uncalled for hitting her and pulling her hair like he did. He should be fired....

Video Shows Police Deputy Attack (Push, Pull Hair, Throw Down, Punch) Girl in Jail

She lightly kicks her shoe out the cell door and he attacks her in a completely brutal fashion, with the help of another "officer":

I offer these highlights to spur discussion:

"The second officer shown in the video was a trainee at the time and is not under investigation, Goodhew said."

["Officer"] "Schene told investigators through an e-mail conversation with his lawyer that once he was assaulted by the girl kicking her shoe at him, he entered the cell to "prevent another assault," according to court documents."

"Assaulted" by a shoe sliding across the floor in your general direction ?

What's next, such trivialities being used to justify the cop shooting her?

Does 'unnecessary use of force' exist?

Does 'unnecessary use of force' exist in a police state? Why do people always seem to justify the actions of the state?

'Well you knew better'
'You shouldn't have raised your voice'
'Not all _______ are bad'
'Just look at _______ country, they're worse'

etc.

US 'cell assault' video released

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75n_-ddPA7Y

SEATTLE - A security video released Friday shows a King County sheriff's deputy purportedly shoving and kicking a 15-year-old girl in a holding cell after her arrest.

The security video was obtained by KOMO News under the state Open Records Act.

The deputy, Paul Schene, 31, has been charged with fourth-degree assault in connection with the Nov. 29 incident in a holding cell at SeaTac City Hall. Schene pleaded not guilty to the charge Thursday, and he was released on his own recognizance..

According to court records, Schene and another deputy arrested a pair of 15-year-old girls for investigation of auto theft after they were stopped driving a stolen car.

The girls were taken to the holding facility at SeaTac City Hall for fingerprinting and other processing.

Trouble allegedly began after Schene escorted one of the teens into a holding cell. While trying to take her shoes off, the girl kicked off her left shoe, which struck the deputy in the shin, the document said.

The video shows the girl crossing her arms and kicking off her shoe through the doorway of the cell. The video then shows the deputy's violent response.

Court records say Schene kicked the teen in the upper thigh area, then pushed her into the back wall before taking her down on the floor and putting her in a handcuffing position. Once on the floor, Schene grabbed the teen's hair and yanked her head and neck upward, the document said.

With the help of the other deputy, Schene then handcuffed the teen, the document said. While doing so, Schene appeared to strike the teen twice overhead, investigators noted. However, due to the angle of the camera, they could not determine whether the deputy had actually hit the teen.

The document states teen then began complaining about not being able to breathe. She later told investigators she was pulled up to her feet by her hair and taken back to the regular holding area. Medics were called to tend to her, but she was not taken to the hospital.

Both girls were booked into the Youth Center on auto theft charges. One of the girls was also booked for assault for allegedly assaulting the deputy.

Schene's attorney, Anne Bremner, released a statement Friday in response to the video's release. The statement said:

"We had argued strenuously that the video tape released to the media this morning not be released because it does not tell the whole story of the incident. As we argued to the judge, it will inflame public opinion and will severely impact the deputy's right to a fair trial. We will defend this misdemeanor case in court. No story can be sliced so thin that it does not have two sides. We hope that judgment will be reserved until all the facts of this case are given fair consideration in court."

On Dec. 1, the detective assigned to the auto theft and assault case checked the security video as part of her follow-up investigation. She saw the holding cell video and immediately notified her supervisor.

An investigation then began, and the accused deputy, an 8-year veteran of the force, was placed on paid administrative leave the following day. He currently remains on leave.

Sgt. John Urquhart said the surveillance video shows Schene "using more force that was necessary as far as the prosecutor's office is concerned. And as far as we're concerned, that rises up to the level of an assault."

Schene said the teen had become enraged when she found out she was going to be booked into the Youth Center, the document said.

The teen told detectives she had not meant to hit the deputy with her shoe, and said she never resisted arrest. She also said the incident left a bruise on her right hip, as well as scratches on her arm and neck.

The second teen later told investigators her friend and Schene had been "arguing at each other" since the traffic stop.

The second deputy said the alleged victim was "real lippy," calling the deputies names and "basically trying to piss us off."

Schene refused to explain why he had made the two strikes toward the teen in the holding cell since he and his partner appeared to have the teen under control. He also refused to say whether the strikes actually made contact.

Now that the criminal investigation is complete, the sheriff's Internal Investigations Unit will launch its own probe. The result will determine discipline, which could include termination.

Re: Does 'unnecessary use of force' exist?

Yes, unnecessary use of force exists and it would be ignorant to claim that it doesn't. But, it doesn't exist as much as people would like to think it does. People just love to over-react to when police use force, always claiming that they didn't have to do such a thing.

If you watch the show COPS, you will see people being slammed on the hood of a car or thrown against the ground really hard all the time, but hardly will you ever hear people complaining about what the police are doing in those scenarios. But, you put that same exact video on YouTube and millions will bitch and moan about how unnecessary it was within a matter of minutes. Why? Because people just want to bitch about things, especially the police, especially on the internet.

So, yes...unnecessary use of force exists, but people blow it way out of proportion sometimes.

Re: Does 'unnecessary use of force' exist?

Then my question is, if it is happening, and apparently on more and more of a frequent basis, then what can be done to stop it? Is there no solution to the problem? It is just a permanent part of American society now?

The case that I posted above is just one of many. I myself have had similar confrontations. I suppose if it doesn't happen to you, then you don't care if it happens to others, at least not in any sense that you would get up and express more than a shrug of your shoulders in disapproval. It appears to me that much of the people I have met in the U.S. have this same apathy. If it's not my kid, or my wallet, or my refrigerator etc.
