I once brought up the idea of the USA using all of its military and economic power to assume control of the entire world....not for pillage and plunder, but in order to bring peace, stability and humanity to the planet....a sort of Pax Americanus. I know it sounds egotistical (to say the least!) to suggest such a thing but I think it's an argument worth having since, with the rapid rise of China and the resurgence of the Sovie....er, I mean Russia, the window for its legitimate consideration is rapidly closing. Right?

Problem is, it would likely ignite a nucular (using the Bush version there....) war resulting in the entire planet being reduced to a smoldering cinder. On second thought....a really bad idea. Never mind.

All joking aside, the world is a really, really fucked up place and I wish we would mind our own business and tend to the many woes we have right here in this country. We have played the world's policeman for so long that a lot of nations now look to us to fill that role whether we should or not. NATO, SEATO and a host of other military obligations have us firmly engaged in the "foreign entanglements" about which George Washington warned us against.
