Kagney Linn Karter dead at 36: Adult film star ‘died by suicide’ as friends raise money for memorial

A few years back, Amazon Prime had episodes of the web series "Ask a Pornstar" in which performers would answer questions both industry related and otherwise. She appeared on the series and seemed like a reasonably down-to-Earth individual. Sad that she saw no way to go forward. RIP.

I saw her years ago in a 2016 or 2017 BTS video for bang.com where she talked about having bouts of depression and having feelings of failure. Yes, she was depressed back then. Chain smoking cigarettes one after another.

Really sad. Rest in Peace Kagney. You will be missed.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Parma is a 20 minute drive from my house. In fact, my mother in law lives in Parma.

What?? Oh, no.. What a beautiful woman she was. I saw some of her content over the years, and the camera loved her. If she had depression - she should have been able to afford to see a psychiatrist, and get meds for it. Maybe she didn't like the side effects, if she did? I grabbed a (tasteful) pic from a gallery, for peeps to remember her by.

In the video I saw, she did say that she had been in therapy; seeing a psychiatrist for about eight years. Yes, she was on Lithium then Zoloft during that time. So I guess if it was 2017, then it was around the time she started in adult or maybe a year later in 2009.

Kagney's dead? Sorry to hear. I LOVE her BikiniRiot sets, got me so horny. Time to go to her page and pay "tribute."

I've been thinking a lot about Kagney these past few days since the news broke. I'm honestly heartbroken. I'm not sure if I ever had any interaction with her. I had a Twitter/X account a long time ago and I spoke to several girls in the industry on a regular basis, but I'm honestly not sure if we ever had a chance to talk. I'm not one for hardcore porn at all, it's just not my thing, but I can honestly say whenever I looked at Kagney, I thought she was genuinely beautiful.

Depression is a wicked disease. It comes and goes when it wants to. It will knock you down when you are at your highest, and it will strike you down when you are at your lowest. I know all too well the struggles. I've been down that path far too many times. A friend of mine once called a certain subset of depression as "The Darkness." While depression can come and go, "The Darkness" stays forever, always eating away inside. I can be at work, driving down the road, or even just watching a movie, and then suddenly, it hits me. The loneliness. The emptiness. My heart sinks in my chest and I feel numb. I can go from smiling and happy one moment, to crying and screaming into the void the next. There has been so many times where I nearly crossed the line.

I am here though. I am alive. I am heartbroken not because Kagney was in porn and now she's gone forever. I am heartbroken because another life has been taken by this awful disease. Kagney's life mattered. No one should ever have to feel any other way.

This comment, right here, is exactly why there needs to be far more discussion about mental health in society. Because some people just think "Oh, take meds!" like that works for everyone and for everything.

Read @Xombie3000 's post above.

Agree, there is no magic bullet for depression, bipolar, and other mental diseases despite what the pharmaceutical industry wants you to think. Finding the right medication for any given person is trial and error because all of these meds have side effects, sometimes worse than what's being treated in the first place. Real life example of someone I know trying to find the right balance of meds and their dosage:

Try one med - initial problem better but not enough and it causes excessive thirst, decided to live with that
Add a second med - base problem better but too sleepy to function well, spend months trying to get the dosage right, still too sleepy
Drop med two, try a third - no effect, back to med two
Drop med two for a fourth - good improvement on base problem but it causes OCD
Drop med four for a fifth - some improvement but now we've got body shakes and hallucinations
...and it went on from there for months more before they finally found a life balance they could life with. Happy to report they are okay now but it took going through all that and more I don't even know about to get there.

As someone who is going through some mental health issues myself, this hits hard. And knowing other pornstars that took their lives makes it even sadder that it's not an isolated incident.

A mental health issue doesn't have to be suicidal intentions. Things like anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD - my opinion is that all of us suffer from at least some degree of these. The issue is how we deal with it when it notably impacts our daily lives - including what supports we have access to (or are even aware of).

And to add - mental health support is not cheap. Even in countries with "universal healthcare" like Canada, it's not covered under socialized medicare. You either pay out of pocket or hope your employer has a generous benefit plan which covers it.

I'm curious whether users here from other countries (US/UK/EU/etc) know if mental health is covered, or at least subsidized by your governments.

You can get mental healthcare under the NHS over here but the waiting lists are huge. My 16yo waited 3 years for psychotherapy. There are private options aplenty if you can afford them but the prices are nuts.

Kagney Linn Karter -- a famous porn star -- has died by suicide ... TMZ has learned.

The adult film actress -- who got her start in the industry way back in the mid-2000s -- passed away Thursday in Cuyahoga County ... this according to online records that confirm her body was received by the Medical Examiner's office that day from Parma, OH.

The adult industry really needs to do something about what's going on with these stars with their mental health issues 🙏🏿🙏🏿 it's the least they can do seriously

Is that for all mental health issues, or was your child assessed to be put lower on the waiting list?
Because if someone reached out to deal with imminent suicidal intent, I hardly think "Let us get back to you in 3 years" is the appropriate response.

Welcome to the UK. The NHS is a wonderful, if flawed institution that is staggeringly underfunded by a conservative government that doesn't give a shit about it and just wants to sell it off rather than fund it properly. Hence the waiting lists that exist for pretty much everything.

The industry needs a special body or organisation that deals specifically with the mental health of those who work in it. I'm sure there are those in the industry who received mental healthcare but I just wonder if their experiences with therapists who don't really know or empathise with sex work have not often been positive.

There does seem to be a groundswell of opinion on social media that the industry needs to come together and address this, so hopefully something will good will come out of Kagney's death, and the other deaths we've sadly seen lately. As well as Emily Willis' ongoing health situation, too.

Emergency mental health care is covered in Canada if you're hospitalized (e.g. arrested, suicidal, etc). However once you're stabilized and out of the hospital, you're on your own. Seems to me it would be better to treat people before a crisis situation and avoid the hospital entirely but that goes for the entire health care system doesn't it?
