Is This Presently The Greatest Rock n' Roll Band In the World?

meesterperfect

Hiliary 2020
Rolling Stones
Smashing Pumpkins
The Who

Although the stones and the who haven't really released anything in years, so Its the pumpkins because they are still making new stuff.........and foo fighters, and dinosaur jr.
but a lot of great bands still exist, meaning they never officially broke up, many just don't put out anything new.

Agree with you on yes

However Chicago and the moody blues ?

I believe Kiss and Rush both have sold more albums and are still out there doing what bands are supposed to do....like em or not.....they deserve it
There's a Ghost of a Chance that Bon Jovi is presently the greatest active Rock 'n Roll Band today because . . .
''Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in August 1968 . . . ''

Need I post more? :hatsoff:

Seriously, it's all good though, Bonjo is talented.
Thanks Facetious and Caddyman.

You truly forget how long Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have been around.

Though Rush back then had a different drummer, John Rutsey. It hasn't been Neil Peart all along.

Longevity means nothing.
Don't get me wrong - I love Hawkwind. However, they probably could not crack the top 500 in top rock acts. yet, 41 years after their creation, they are still around.
The Mekons have been going strong since 1977. Yet, there are probably 40 people out there who were not on the band that could name three of their albums.
In one form or another, King Crimson has been around since 1969. Though a bit more influential than the previous two (mainly because of their first album), they've not nearly the work.

Do hits make a great group? I would say no. Both Britney Spears and AC/DC have had two number one songs. Who is the better rocker? Bad example, I know, but "number one" is rather arbitrary. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band spawned no top ten hits...because none of the songs were released as singles while The Beatles were a group. Meanwhile, Sport by Huey Lewis And The News spawned four top ten hits...mainly, because the 1980s were a decade of pure musical suckdom.

First is The Beatles, Paul & Ringo are still alive & Paul is still touring and putting out new songs.
Second place would be Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones are still alive and Plant still putting out new music.
Third place The Rolling Stones no need to say anything there.....
Fourth place would a tie between Kiss, Ozzy, Aerosmith

I won't say who's "greatest" but I'll tell you who is not: Bon Jovi.

Example of a great band:
Iron Maiden has been playing to packed stadiums since before Bon Jovi - and without the help of much mainstream media (i.e. radio, tv, etc.) - and still do.
Could Bon Jovi, Aerosmith or U2 have done it without that extra boost? Could they do it if their songs weren't being shoved down the radio-listeners throats all this time? They're practically pop acts. How does 'radio hits' or so many records being bought by little girls and housewives (who only listen to a few songs) make a band great?

Maiden's audience is more enthusiastic, their frontman has more energy and ability on his worst day than most have on their best. (2nd only to Freddie Mercury). He and the whole band are on full-force from start to finish every night.

To put it another way: 'most popular' does not equal 'greatest'.

Motorhead are the best.

Long live Lemmy :banger:

Motor Head is Awesome (and a FAV)...but....
When I thing Rock & Roll it is not them, they are to Metal (sorry I split rock and metal, etc - dumb maybe but works for me)

Now Bon Jovi - wow if you ever went to a Bon Jovi Concert it is just amazing! But with that said "The Boss", Bruce puts on an amazing show, and even in age is an amazing Rocker!

But I can see Bon Jovi up there, along with Van Halen, etc. So it would not surprise me.

Bon Jovi is a pop band, not a rock band.

And if you think the Stones are still the best rock band, then you must think LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook are still the best running backs in the NFL.
