Is it just as much a crime?

I was watching TV "Clean Sweep" this morning *waits for the laughter of members to subside* and while watching the yard sale portion of the show some questions popped into my head. Is "shoplifting " at a yard sale as much a crime as any other shoplifting? Could someone be arrested for it?

I remember at a community fire house sale once someone jumped on a bike and took off with it after being dropped off from a car. The guy was a young boy, we had wondered if a 'parent' had been the one that dropped him off. I remember my *** (she had a yard sale every Spring) telling me "Look at that woman, she just put that in her bag." while I was helping her at her sale. I of course replied for her to let it go, "its a 25 cent item ma" no need to say a thing I felt. Later discussing it, we all wondered why someone would bother stealing junk or even more shocking something from a community fund raiser. *shrugs*

Please spare me the 'yeah lets send a cop to every yard sale' crap. lol I realize that is not a doable answer to the problem. My questions are along the line of this "do you feel the perpetrators should be called out and at least embarrassed? " Do you consider it 'theft' no different than any other or a lesser crime? Any thoughts on where that thin line is?

I'm headed out for a quick Google fix on it, maybe something on the subject. :dunno: I'll try.
