He signed nothing more than a contract extension. The Yankees are on the hook for the Texas Rangers subsidy. That's about it. Why did ARod opt out of his contract if he only ended up returning to the Yankees for, in the grand scheme, a marginal salary raise?

Is there a Yankees fan here that wanted him back? I really thought the Yankees were going to laugh at ARod on the day that he bitterly signed a contract in LA for $100mil less...

I can't wait to hear all the lies that ARod spews at the press conference as he says, "I always wanted to be a Yankee..I love it here..I love Derek Jeter"..:rofl:

The "bonus" he'll get for breaking the HR record as a Yankee is probably fucking insane. My guess...that's why he signed.

He tested the market, didn't get any good offers, then signed with the Yanks for more money than he would have made otherwise, plus potential bonuses. Doesn't sound too stupid to me.

I meant he was stupid because he is married and it apparently got him into ALLOT of trouble with the Mrs. (I should have included that in my earlier post).

Actually, I have walked around parts of Toronto with a few strippers back in the day.
Well, actually more drive and then get out and walk a bit.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I mean, it's not like the guy lied to a grand jury or anything. Now that is stupid.

I'm a Yankee fan with him or without him. It doesnt matter, if he wears the uniform I'll cheer for him to the end, if he doesnt, then I'll wish him the best of luck elsewhere. It really makes no difference to me.

For all the talk of going somewhere else, the team that ended up with him was the team I though he would end up with. I had a hard time seeing anybody else picking up the contract he wanted.

He is currently #1 and #2 in richest contracts in sports history.
Not a bad list to be gold and silver in.....

Let us revisit some things...

His Original 10 year/$250million contract paid him (on average) $25mil a year. When Texas basically said "We can't afford this contract..HELP!"..the Yankees came to the rescue providing Texas co-pay on the contract ($20 million more was supposed to come from the Rangers).

--ARod "opts-out" of his contract during the World Series. He "rained" on MLB's parade and made himself bigger then the game.

--His Agent publically floats $350Mill as "the new figure" ($35 mil a year).

--The Yankees declare, "We will not negotiate with him again..."

--ARod and his agent wait around for 2 weeks, for the parade of suitors. Nothing serious materializes from any team.

--ARod panics and calls up the Yankees to see if they are "still interested." They say, "Yes," but we don't want your agent to negotiate.

--ARod agrees, silences his agent, and negotiates a new deal for $27 mill a year.

This is a far cry from the $30-$35mill he and his agent were bragging about. ARod's reputation, what little was left, has been ruined, and for what amounts to nothing more than a marginal salary increase, all things considered.

He could've saved his public embarrassment if he and his agent weren't so dumb or greedy or both:dunno: There are very few blunders like over-inflating ones self-worth....

His agent, super-agent Boras, i believe was largely responsible for him opting out. In the end, I figured it would be the yankees, because who else could afford him?
yes, what little rep he had ledt took a major hit, but in the end, he got what he wanted. . . more money. that's all it is about, all its ever been about. His agent is the one who looks like the biggest dumbass, for the timing of the announcement and the ridiculousness of his "demands", and eventually for not even being there for the outline of the deal!
