Since joining not too long ago I've been infatuated somewhat with one of the members here, Monca Silver. She has been quiet for a few months, but she agreed to letting me "interview" her for anyone else on the board who may be as interested as I am. I'm shamelessly stealing the idea of interviewing a board member from Jagegger from when he did a great job of interviewing another board favorite, LurkingDirk.
Monica, tell us a little about yourself.
Well, I'm in my late 20's, Born, raised, and live in Westchester, NY. LOVE Italian food. I'm even getting better at cooking it. I reluctantly go to the gym (because I eat too much Italian food). I'm an outdoor girl, who hikes, camps, and is an avid scuba diver with my master and wreck certifications.
I was raised in a very strict Irish Catholic household. I contribute that to my inner depravity and kinkiness. Of which, I am thankful for.
Tell me about your education.
Went to private grammar and high school. I have a BA in Economics from NYU, an Executive MBA from Columbia, and just completed my Doctorate in Economics from Columbia as well. Woohoo!
What do you do for a living?
Well, I was a Financial Advisor for Bear Stearns. I was unemployed in 2008.
So, a friend of mine who is in the "Adult Business" helped me get started as an ******. I cater to those with kinkier tastes and exclusive clients. In 2010, after a couple of successful years with that as an ****** I longed for the Finance World again, so I started a Financial Advisory Consulting practice. I've hired a couple of people and we were able to take advantage of some of the needs during a downturn and have a tidy client list that is focused and growing.
Why did you stop posting on FreeOnes?
I enjoyed the discussions on here. I found some folks to be relatively well informed. I didn't agree with everyone's conclusions, but that is what makes it fun.
I found that there was a mean streak forming on the board. I'm certainly a NY Liberal. However, I like to look at things holistically and don't feel that just because I don't agree with a point of view is a reason to insult the other person. I was seeing more and more of that on here and I was being insulted (or felt I was) by people whose point of view I really didn't differ from all that much. Oddly enough, I was seeing those whose point of view I really didn't agree with behaving rather well.
When I would not that a post was mean spirited there were a few members who would really hop on that and insult the very thought of criticizing the spirit of the post.
One infuriating thing, and I still see it on here, I supported Obama for president. I was a volunteer in his campaign. So, I would say I have a personal investment in him to a degree. There are members who can not seem to accept any critique of him. Since I invested in him with my personal time and money, I feel as though we are owed the right to do so. That is really true of any president, isn't it? The very mention of the name "Obama" is a lightening rod for discussion.
So, the answer to your question is the name calling and immaturity in the discussion threads is what moved me to be more of a viewer than an active poster.
Care to name the members who you think are immature and "name callers"?
LOL, no!!! Although I see some discussions once in a while that some of them may be one in the same. You never know. It is the internet.
