I sometimes get this aswell, what I usually do is grab a whiskey, take a really really hot shower and then you´ll be off to the realms of the sandman.

And for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT take the whiskey with you to the shower, thats just alcohol abuse!

LOL im more of a vodka girl but alochol wires me up so I doubt it would be of any help ... I guess I am just stuck staying awake watching full house until I fall asleep.

i hate that sun, btw. i try and race it but it usually wins.

Someone else had a problem with this a while back. They took my recommendation to take Melatonin and it helped them. As a life long insomniac, it is the only thing that works for me.

Note: Beware of the ones that say to dissolve under your tongue. Maybe they have gotten better, but back when, you may as well tried to dissolve a piece of gravel under your tongue. Just get the regular pills, use as directed.

Youtube the Barenaked Ladies' Who Needs Sleep? - won't help with the problem, but might give you a reason to crack a smile at it.

the only thing you have to watch out for is dependence. any ritual before sleep is a surefire way to get dependent on it. and thats hard to break. even the "none-addictive" stuff.

if its a real bads issue that interfere with work and stuff, then yeah, but tread carefully. one insomniac to another.

I agree in principle, but disagree when it comes to Melatonin. Study after study has shown it to not only be non-habit forming, it's not even overdose-able. It's as benign as it gets. And my own experience with it supports that.

I'll also say that Sominex is completely safe. I use it extensively when I'm on the tournament trail, and have never felt any desire for it when I'm done. It's Diphen-hydramine (sp?), which is about one step above water.

I never sleep more than four or five hours a night. Doesn't matter how tired I am. It's part of my charm. It allows me to get a lot of reading and writing done, though. :)

I have ambien to help. Nights when I really need to get some solid sleep, I take it. It guarantees me about 4 hours, and doesn't make me dopey the next day. Talk to your doctor - Ambien, or Ambien CS is the way to go. There are generic versions of it, which are cheaper.

:2 cents:

The one and only.
I always get at least seven hours a night. It's very easy for me to fall asleep when I'm tired. Give me a blanket and some background noise, and I could fall asleep on concrete if I needed to. During a rain delay for the Indy 500 a few years ago, I curled up on the ground under a grocery store awning and took a nap while waiting for the weather to improve. I can seriously fall asleep anywhere. It's awesome.
