I'm sure that the artist can draw better than that if he put more than ten minutes into a piece,but anyone that's raving about that picture obviously doesn't have very good art skills.

The variations thing is exactly what I was thinking. It could be a wrong assumption, but it's true that most artists take much longer than 10 minutes (including myself) to do a drawing. If you're doing a drawing, you take your time, have patience, and you certainly don't jump from drawing part of the hair to drawing somewhere completely outside that particular spot of the drawing. It's pretty obvious that he's done that drawing countless times so he already has practiced it lots of times prior to making the video.
Nevertheless, I still think it's a good drawing.
