I was abused by the cops an hour ago!

So here's my story for your viewing pleasure.

A few hours ago I decided to make a complaint to the police about something that happened to me. The complaint is irrelevant to this story though. So i'm standing in line at the police station as there is one other person in front of me when i walk in and there is one guy waiting on people. So i'm waiting and then someone gets in line behind me and then another person. Still no second cop comes to help. So i'm waiting, being calm although starting to get annoyed. So the person in front of me gets taken to another part of the station, and i am left waiting in line with the others.

I say o.k., i guess someone else will come. I don't remember how much time went by but i'm starting to get more annoyed because there are a half dozen cops sitting in plain sight of me and doing nothing about people waiting in line. Not even a little acknowledgment that we exist let alone getting waited on. Also, as far as anyone can tell, none of the cops are doing anything which makes them look like they are so busy that they can't at least say to me "someone will be with you shortly."

So then once someone comes up to the window where people are waited on the woman behind me just walks right in front of me and starts explaining her issue she came to the station for. So i'm standing there thinking to myself, is this cop going to acknowledge that this person clearly walked right in front of me? Now i could have said something right then and there, but i was trying to maintain my composure and figured i'd wait my turn. Then i start to think about what else is wrong with this situation.

So eventually i get up to the window and i say to the cop "i came in here with an issue to discuss but now i have 2-3 issues and maybe four." so he asks me what are my issues. i tell him "first of all, this woman was clearly behind me in line but yet she walked in front of me and you waited on her and didn't say anything." he says, "oh,that's a mistake." so i laugh a little to myself but continue on with complaint two. I say "second, why does no one come out and ask the people in line if there is an emergency." he says "if there is an emergency, call 911." i say "what if i don't know that. or what if i just experienced something outside the police station." he says "well did you say anything to anyone." i say "no, i'm waiting in line like a respectable citizen." then he says "well i guess that's two mistakes we made."

in my mind he is totally down playing the severity of my point. then i laugh and say "maybe to you they are mistakes, but to me they show you are incompetent." then he says "so why don't you just go home." and i say "am i allowed to stand here and express my concerns?" and he say "go ahead what are your issues?" and i say "i'm still in the process of explaining my issues." then two different cops come out from behind the window, grab me by both arms, drag me toward the door, throw me out the door and say "don't try to come back."

i swear that is exactly how it happened. i never even got to explain what my original reason was for coming in. isn't that a sign of both unjustified use of force/assault as well as gross incompetency on the part of the entire police station for being neglegent of citizens waiting in line? do you think i could file a lawsuit against them and win?

you told the cops that they were incompetent, why would you expect them to acquiesce with your request?

sure all those things that happened to you suck, but they aren't against the law, so there really isn't much the cops will do about it and giving them shit is not a way that will get them to want to deal with you at all.

sure it was wrong, but what are you gonna do about it? I'd say you are lucky they didn't beat the shit out of you.

dealing with cops suck, just think of it as a little game. tell them what they want to hear, if you can, and it will make it easier on you.

True...they only talk to you when they are giving you a traffic ticket.

I gave up in trying to report vandalism to my car, they just ask where you live and once they find out they say well that's private property or that's not in our jurisdiction. That's why when the fuckers ask for more money or the city says they have to cut police service because of budget cuts I am like "big deal"

I think you're just being a cry baby over nothing. The officer was right to tell you to call 9-1-1 if it was an emergency. If it was truly an emergency, you wouldn't be calmly waiting in line, which is why none of the officers treated it as such.

Also, those officers that were "doing nothing" might have been on a break. They also might have been discussing a case, planning their night, etc. You don't know what they were doing.

Oh, and to be completely blunt...I don't believe that the officer said "we made a mistake". Negligence of citizens waiting in line? Seriously? Sorry, but you don't have anything to be mad about, especially in sense of filing a lawsuit. Every single lawyer that you would try and hire would just laugh at you. Most lawyers are friend with policemen anyway, so they wouldn't even want to help you, especially with something as petty and small as this.

I had to wait at a police station for almost 2 hours once, when I was involved in a hit and run. Yes, waiting sucked, but I wasn't a case of emergency. I was just there to file paperwork.

man, i'm telling ya. the degree to which some people are borderline fascist in their justification/dismissal of things that are blatantly wrong really boggles my mind.

i expect them to acquiesce because i did not break any laws and it is their job to listen to citizens concerns.

it's not against the laws to assault someone with no justification? just because someone calls you out for being incompetent doesn't give you the right to abuse someone.

man, you're just one big walking willful ignorance machine, aren't you? i'm not even going to bother responding to you as my experience from a few days ago is that regardless of what i say to you, no matter how rational and well articulated, you are going to pretend that you are right. so thanks, but no thanks.

Like I stated before, I see your pain, I just gave up in dealing with them. Maybe it's the way people are here what I call the "why did it happen?" "how could this be avoided?" type of stupid questions when shit goes wrong that might have not if it was treated seriously to begin with.

I forgot where did this happened? I would had farted when they had grabbed me...so what was your complaint? I would call their district office or something and yes I would have farted..

let me give an example. this may or may not be the reason i walked into the police station originally. let's say someone had recently threatened my life and said that if i walk out of that police station i am going to be killed. now i walk into the station and wait in line. now as i'm waiting in line, i see ridiculous things going on that are directly effecting me and when it's my turn in line, i start out with the most recent concerns and try to work my way back to the original problem which is that i'm going to be killed if i walk out this door. now someone, let's say big hurt or someone of such limited intelligence claims that i should have ran in to the station screaming that i'm going to be killed. now if i don't run in screaming and wait in line, but then get thrown out before i can make my complaint about my life being threatened, then i say the police are endangering my life and being grossly neglegent of serving and protecting a citizen. now what do you all say to that?

Ok I see..look police tend to be into details and straight to the point. Perharps you needed to get to the point and ignore for the moment whatever had happened there and not name them complaints. The other stuff you could have handle over the phone at a later date and time, but you needed to take care of the main thing first. As for considering legal action, well lawyers are very expensive and they don't guarantee anything.

What you said was far from "well articulated".

Anyway, the title of your thread says "I was ABUSED by the cops an hour ago!" When I started reading it, after seeing the word "abused", I expected to see some sort of physical harm being done to you in your story. But, this is what you said...

in my mind he is totally down playing the severity of my point. then i laugh and say "maybe to you they are mistakes, but to me they show you are incompetent." then he says "so why don't you just go home." and i say "am i allowed to stand here and express my concerns?" and he say "go ahead what are your issues?" and i say "i'm still in the process of explaining my issues." then two different cops come out from behind the window, grab me by both arms, drag me toward the door, throw me out the door and say "don't try to come back."

How is that abuse? Did they hit you? Punch you? Kick you? No...they simply grabbed you by your arms and dragged you out of the station. Well, that's what they "supposedly" did.

They weren't being negligent at all. People have to wait. You are no different and neither is your situation just because it happened in a police station. Oh, and it is NOT their job to listen to the concerns of citizens. It is their job to uphold the law; not listen to you bitch about stuff, which is apparently all you wanted to do in the first place.

let me give an example. this may or may not be the reason i walked into the police station originally. let's say someone had recently threatened my life and said that if i walk out of that police station i am going to be killed. now i walk into the station and wait in line. now as i'm waiting in line, i see ridiculous things going on that are directly effecting me and when it's my turn in line, i start out with the most recent concerns and try to work my way back to the original problem which is that i'm going to be killed if i walk out this door. now someone, let's say big hurt or someone of such limited intelligence claims that i should have ran in to the station screaming that i'm going to be killed. now if i don't run in screaming and wait in line, but then get thrown out before i can make my complaint about my life being threatened, then i say the police are endangering my life and being grossly neglegent of serving and protecting a citizen. now what do you all say to that?

If somebody was threatening your life, why would you "lead up" to it by voicing other concerns first? If you were in honest fear for your life, you would be like "SOMEBODY IS TRYING TO FUCKING KILL ME". But, since you stood there with a clam demeanor, the police knew you didn't have an emergency.

Oh, and calling me names doesn't make you look better. It just makes you look like an even bigger cry baby.

You obviously have no idea how society works. Police officers don't exist just to cater to your every need.

that's nothing. once i was in a crosswalk when a speeding police car with no lights flashing or blinker suddenly turned and almost ran over me, grazing my hand. one more foot and i would have been seriously hurt. i saw him going to the police station which was down the road. i walked there to file a complaint. when i walked in, he pulled out his gun, pointed it at me and told me to get out!

Well at least he did not said "get the fuck out!"

I say "second, why does no one come out and ask the people in line if there is an emergency." he says "if there is an emergency, call 911." i say "what if i don't know that. or what if i just experienced something outside the police station." he says "well did you say anything to anyone." i say "no, i'm waiting in line like a respectable citizen." then he says "well i guess that's two mistakes we made."

i would have done the exact same thing as those cops. your issue was clearly not an emergency, otherwise you would/should have said so. instead you wait like a little mororn in line, fail to tell that woman to wait behind you, and then act like a whiny little bitch.

i get people like that in the restarant where i work all the time, the difference between me and those cops is that i need to be patient and pretend to like all the fucking retards that come to eat, and they don't. they did what i want to do. i congratulate them.

I try to never talk to the police. Even If I am attacked or something. I can't stand talking to them and they make you feel like you've committed the crime.

Some are very power hungry also and I can't stand this because I hate people that think they're godly. I understand your problem with the police. They are unable to do their job correctly, but they have terrible restrictions in some aspects. It's easier to convict someone innocent then someone guilty it seems.

legally, someone is not allowed to put there hands on you and force you to do something unless it is justified within the bounds of the law. now regardless of you people here saying such ignorant things as "you're just bitching," the bottom line is unless you can prove that it is legally within their authority to do what they did, then they broke the law. get it?

To quote Denzel Washington in Training Day when posed with the subject of a man being accused of committing an action that he did not do:

"a room full of cops says that you did. what do you think a jury is going to believe? it's not what you know, it's what you can prove."

If it ever even came to the point where the police had to explain what happened they would say that you were causing a scene, being hostile, belligerent and uncooperative and that is why they escorted you from the premises, and that would be the end of it.

the cops are the biggest racket in town, the only bigger bastards are the feds.
