I just got hit with a huge bill

My college finally sent out the notice that books can now be reserved, so I hopped onto the bookstore's website, entered in all the course numbers, and found out it was going to cost me $340.50. I went to Amazon and found most of my books for less, so now it looks like the total bill is going to $275.96. Not bad, but still a huge bill for only getting 18 weeks out of the book before it becomes irrelevant.

All schools rip you off for books its a complete 100% mark up, One class I had to pay $120 for 1 book that I never used.

Better start selling you body.

Try half.com. I've gotten cheap textbooks from there before.

Congress was supposed to look into the college textbook industry for possible price fixing criminal behavior....

I guess they've got other things on their plate :dunno:

Welcome to college :hatsoff: Probably the only thing I learned out of my long run in college is how expensive books are.

Try eBay for sure. I'm losing money selling my used books on there because nobody is bidding.

The one and only.
If there was one thing that pissed me off about college this was it. Buy a book for $60 and then resell it at the end of the semester for $15. The worst, as an English Ed major, was buying those gigantic anthologies (Norton Anthology of American Lit comes to mind) that could not be resold. I cannot tell you how many bible sized books I have on my bookshelf that I had to buy during my college career. What a waste!

I remember school text books. I had a friend go through the course with me, so we split every year. Sold them and split the cash.

Although, one book I paid for was some Biology bullshit. almost 400 bucks. Fuckin ridiculous.

And its even worse when you dish out all that cash for the books and the teacher doesn't even use it.
Instead they just force their political beliefs on you while youre trapped in that seat, telling you how bad you and your ancestors are because you are of white european descent.
That was my college experience at least.

I had to pay $700 for books and related material for one semester, and that was over 10 years ago. The next semester was only a little cheaper.

That's how it goes, and there is nothing you can do about it.

But you have classic works.......what are you complaining about? :dunno: I have the same anthologies......I love 'em.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I was going to tell you, that's not to bad, considering what my wife paid for hers when she got her masters, but it looks like everyone else has the same story.

College classes that solely depend on book readings piss me off. College should be more about lecture and participation.

Boy I remember facing that same problem, only I didn't have Amazon to compare. I remember getting a book for $275 at the beginning of the semester, and almost selling it back for $26 at the end. And I never even used the piece of crap. I ended up selling it to a friend, but the markup of 100-300% is absurd these days.

My niece and nephew use that all the time, and in my experience it's 100% worth using.

I sold all my Criminal Justice books for almost triple their original prices.

Every test in our instructor's course was open note and through his lectures he'd always point out exactly what would be on the test or quiz. So I'd highlight stuff and make notes in the margines for later.

Since I never got below a 4.0 on any test, those books were pure gold to people. :1orglaugh

Best part? My mother was a semester ahead of me so I got all of the books she bought for the class. Pure profit.

Buy early & save on used texts.

Sometimes you can hand pick as good as new used texts (books from class dropouts), that is if you buy the books in person from bookstore.

Fat chance though if you we're like me -> :off to the beach: :D

Fall is the most depressing season and it's not even here yet !! :o
