I hope the shutdown of Fed Gov't will mean no Congressperson draws salary

That only seems logical and fair. If the Federal Government shuts down that is proof that our present Representative Democracy system does not work in 2011 America.

What it should mean is the dissolution of the elected contract between voter and elected Congressperson. All Congresspersons should immediately lose their positions, and we should begin electing a new Congress. That's the truth. This GOP led Congress essentially failed in even managing the Government. They do not believe in Compromise, but there must be consequences for failure to act as an elected representative. If Congress continues to get paid and maintain their positions in this era of nonGov't what it the point of anything anymore? Seriously.

I also hope it means that our present Armed forces deployed in "wars" will come home since the people who sent you to war no longer represent a functioning government.

I say pack your tent and rifle soldier and come home. :hatsoff:

Even the insufferable charlatan Karl Rove basically said shutting down the Gov't will harm Republicans and only benefit Obama and the Dems. :dunno:

The GOP is a servant body for Corporate Interests, and those Corporate Interests do not coincide with TeaBagging Loonitarianism.

I do hope the TeaBagging Loonitarians are kept around because they are successfully kicking aside the Evangelical Nitwit Conservative (aka the Mike Huckabee) and the Corporate Sycophant Republican (Newt Gingrich and Rudy).

I like seeing the GOP being torn and shredded into 3 distinct groups...

All non handicapped government dependents should be banned from the ballot initiative process and have half of their undeserved freebies taken away first, then we'll talk. How do you like that?

Gas, Grass or Ass, nobody rides for free!

No, community organizing is not a legitimate occupation either!

Sorry, hate to tell you, all the Congress people and Senators, still get paid. President too. US Mail will continue and Social Security will still go out. Although the childish bickering from stupid people that stupid people voted in because they believed a flyer in the mail will continue.

Unfortunately congress actually passes separate laws just for their pay so the likelihood of them not getting paid is probably slim. In fact they have already voted themselves in virtually perpetual pay raises for the future. That was done partially so they could get around the spirit of the 27th Amendment. In any cause the vast majority of congressional members are rich and loaded outside of their job as congressmen (Remember normal everyday people don't really constitute them.) so it wouldn't really effect them that much.

Yeah, as was already covered, the Congress took the initiative to cover their own asses, and they will get paid, unless, on an individual basis, one decided not to accept their check until the impasse is resolved. Social Security comes out of a separate fund (supposed to anyway), so that's why they will still go out. The USPS is a pseudo-governmental agency, and "technically" a separate "corporation" which is why that will be unaffected also.

However, things such as tax refunds, they will not go out until after the impasse is resolved, not to mention the military and other government workers will not get paid (some, who are put on "stay home" status because of them being "non-essential" might not get paid ever for the time they are forced to stay home), National Parks will be closed (along with most government buildings), the Federal Courts will be closed, among other things. And the savings from all of this? A COST to the taxpayers in the BILLIONS!

Not true. The Congress members (Senators and Representatives) consider themselves essential and therefore receive a salary. Their staff, the people who work for the Sgt. at Arms, The Architect of the Capitol aren't. Even the Capitol Police, even though considered essential, are working without pay.

So, they made a "deal." This was a nail-biter.

Those actors and actresses...I mean politicians sure had some people fooled.
Actually, it does happen! So, I wouldn't go so far to say anyone was fooled per se. There was DEFINITELY a government shut down during Clinton's Presidency, lasting November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996....sooooo, it can happen.

The only way to actually prevent a government shut down is to, as they did in this case, pass a temporary spending bill yet again, or actually pass the budget for the fiscal year.
