So I have recently been told about the "chicken pox parties" that some parents do:

When someone's kid gets the chicken pox, all his/her friends come over and spend the day and night together. That way, all the kids have it at a fairly young age, have it all at the same time, and then they're done with it.

Is that bullshit, or brilliant?

And, as said above, be glad it isn't shingles. That shit is wicked.

One of my birthday parties was a "chickenpox party." I can't remember how old I was, probably 5 or 6...I felt like crap and everyone came and dumped their kids at my house. It sucked. LOL

You'll be glad to know chickenpox don't last too long. But when you get older you'll have a shingles outbreak from the chickenpox virus that will live in your body till the day you die. :eek:

That happened to my husband this time last year. He still has the scars around his middle where the shingles were. It took a good 6 months to be fully recovered. And, this being a very Calvanistic country, trying to get more than over the counter grade tylonol for him was a nightmare. They're that painful and I don't wish it on anyone after seeing what he went through.

I've heard of those "parties", but in my fair state children have to get the chicken pox vaccine. Unless you choose not to have your children immunized, which gets you all kinds of stares and lectures.

I had chicken pox twice as a kid. First time wasn't that bad, second time was much worse.

Hate to hear that you're going through this, Namreg. Hopefully you have a quick recovery.

I had them 2x as well and the 2nd time was worse and that was the one that fell on my birthday. I just know my kids will be vaccinated for it so they don't have to deal with shingles down the road.

It's brilliant.

Four fifths of deaths from chicken-pox are in adults. It's far worse for you when you get older, you should definitely go out of your way to make your child get them.

My good friend just got them visiting his girl in Philly last weekend. He's 27 and got real sick.

I got them at 2 then again at 5. If you get them early enough you can get them again and the second time it was in my mouth and gave me a few scars that took twenty years to fade.
