I give up... The pre-puberty kids win. :(

I don't consider myself a novice with computers.

I control everything as far as my computer is concerned. I use (AND PAY) for Norton's Anti-Virus.

I do the ports myself on my computer.

I've used Internet Explorer.
I've used Mozilla.
I've used Firefox.

I run Search and Destroy... I run Ad-Aware once a week.

AND I update my Microsoft Updates RELIGIOUSLY.

Last night I was surfing www.pichunter.com and sister site... ************** .

During my surfing I click on a hopeful link and it starts to load the link. REJECTED. All the sudden it switches to this stupid porn site that is just... crappy. I get pop-ups. "Please click yes to continue." "Please download this." "Please let me suck your dick." etc.

NO NO NO NO NO [X] [X]

I spam X's... I try control alt delete and closing all of internet explorer. My computer is grinding away downloading god knows what...

Finally... I just unplugged my connection.

Well... here is the kicker... APPARENTLY. Im supposed to let the virus load so my anti-virus will recognize it to remove it. I stopped it mid-way so my computer has like half a virus and I get blank about:blank pages reset in my home page. Ive got this DrWatson.txt file going that keeps trying to open and I can't get into my program list to system restore a couple hours ago.

I reboot... Reboot again... reboot in SAFE mode... Nothing.

I ended up having to COMPLETELY system restore my computer.

This isn't a problem because I save all my stuff religiously and make a back-up almost bi-weekly... But its the TIME!!! OMG The time it takes to get all the Window's updates back in.

Summary: I REFUSE to look at porn on the internet anymore outside of this ONE website... And I won't even click on the links in this website.

The kids win. Im done. :(

I agree, these kids are a pain in the arse.

 But can normally stop anything before it hits the machine, your problem sounds like it was really nasty.
I'm guessing it was probably a rogue ActiveX control trying to install a dialler, or worse.

I've had problems with pop-ups too on some links, and that's despite Zone Alarm, XP SP2, Spybot etc. etc.

Too late for you, but if anyone else is reading this:

Don't click yes or no. Press 'Ctrl, Alt & Delete' and shut down Internet Explorer. It's the safest way, as I'm sure these pop-ups are coded to recognise no as a yes.

And if a site tries to redirect you - close down your explorer straight away. (Unless it's just redirecting you to that sites new address).

In case anyone's had the same problem, or just wants to protect themselves (as much as they can), here's a thread link:

http://board.freeones.com/showthread.php?t=11729

Glad your computer's back up and running, but it's a pain having to download every update again. :wave2:

yeah spyware is literally killing my computer little by little, I have a shitload of trojans on my computer alone, which is why I quit downloading porn.

It is... the one and only adult website.

And I tried Cntrl+Alt+Delete. It wouldn't hard crash IE. I had to literally pull the plug out of the socket.

It was an "About:Blank" homepage change thing. I just stopped it at the wrong moment or something. Im not sure what configuration they were playing with.

try another antivirus... like nod32 or mcafee...
I've never had viruses playing on my PC (I collect them tho, they are in a safe directory on my HD) and I've never used Norton Antivirus... My friends use it and they get viruses quite often

You give up way to easily. I have a T1 running without my XP firewall disabled as well as the one my ool-schay gave me. (2 disabled firewalls). I run without an antivirus. I've only been infected once, and that once time was because I was running Internet Explorer.

Ditch that assified browser. Get something like Firefox or Avant. I run Avant. I disable activeX & javascripts & applets. That way, I dont get any pop-ups, no trojans, no nothing. Just to be on the safe side, I get an online virus check just as much as porstars get theirs--once a month. Squeaky fucking clean.

But of course, I'm a bit more intimate with my computer--I registry edit the fuckers out when they do come, I know damn near every process running and I kill the ones that I didn't say could run. In short, I know my shit. Every once in a while, I'll wipe my entire hard drive just for fun, because I am seriously fucked in the head.

Pray for me.

My introduction to computers was horrific.I bought a cheap 2nd hand one and went onto the world wide web unprotected. What a nightmare is all i can say.A few months later i then decided to buy a brand new computer and proper protection.PC World recommended McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005 and i've never had a problem since. It lasts for a full year and protects against everything.

Sorry about what happened Goblin. You told the story well.

And thanks for sharing it with us. I learned a bit from it.

No matter what you do... they will get into your computer. You HAVE got to have a port open and they will exploit it. Im not pressuring anyone else to stop surfing. IM done. :)

Ive used Firefox. haven't used Avant though... I prefer IE over all of them. IE is just the target right now... that doesn't mean they can't do to the other browser the same thing they do to IE.

Somewhere your going to get hit. And its a pain in the ass when your running a 2,000$ computer to be pissed scared and irritated when you can't get into your soft system restore. I almost called off work to stay home and reconfigure my computer back to the way it was... (Deleting all the factory crap off again. God thats annoying.)

This is usally the part where the mac users comes in and says switch to a mac. But I know that isn't an option for some people, and neither is linux. Anyway if you are running an anti-virus, and updating daily, if you are really "paranoid", as well as runnig a firewall, etc.. you are just about as secure as the average home users is going to get. I also agree with everyone else in saying that is sucks that is happened to you goblin, it sucks when it happens to anyone. It is to bad that a great thing such a the internet is full of assholes who just want to ruin the enjoyment of others for the own amusement, or the "challenge" as a lot of the say. Anyway end of my rant and don't stop "surfin" the web.

BTW if you want to reboot into safe mode, you have to do it the first time you reboot, because when you reboot into safe mode it use the last know good registry configuration, and your registry is update every time you reboot your computer so if your reboot while you are having a problem it is know updated in the registry, and rebooting into safe mode is no longer safe.

I feel your pain goblin. This is the only site I use for similar reasons.

I dont click on any of the external links unless a few of the regulars have clicked and posted a response.

I hate virisus and spyware with a passion

yeap!!!
you really was lucky this time Goblin!!!

it was for sure a pretty nasty virus-attack there!!!

for your information just know that some viruses wait for the ctrl+alt+del to be pushed before they do their job!!!!
others wait for the reset button!!!!

the only way to avoid these situations is indeed a very good anti-virus + a very good firewall + a very good spyware protection !!!!

I don't want to sound complacent because I've got a mac, but It's very rare that anything breaches the firewall on my router and if it does nothing happens.

That said having a mac is incredibly limiting, especially since I'm running OS9.1 and loads of websites, clips, pics and screensavers don't work with this system.

I'm tempted to get a PC but having used a Mac for 15 years means I'm clueless on a PC if anything goes wrong.

The little fuckers who write viruses want a good kicking in my opinion!

Dunno if anyone said this before but try not using administrator rights on your computer. I use a limited account (in Windows i think its called "limited account" or something) and when I need to install or use a certain program I just right-click and choose "Run As". And if u use a limited account or guest account its harder for this shit to get installed. And to be honest I would recommend a router above software "firewalls" or Norton Anti-virus.

And another tips. If something like this happens. Unplugg your network cable and get your disc with virus/trojan remover tools.

Caleb14: Rebooting in safe mode does also requires minimum services going. So you can easily check the service list if there are any suspicious programs running.

Did not know this... :( I usually reboot first just to see if it fixes the problem.

And Opat... That might be a REALLY good idea. :) Make a limited account and use it.

Im still gonna stay away from porn internet for a while though. :( It sucks that its so bad out there. Its hard to find a safe free site.

I hope you get everything taken care of, Goblin. I had a really bad virus on my last laptop that totally screwed it over. Luckily, my dad is a total computer nerd and he got it functional again but it still had probs.
