I am NOT Charlie - Backlash to the reponse

I think it's always healthy to examine the view opposite popular opinion. With the euphoria of "Je Suis Charlie" dying down, there is a sobering movement against the magazine. Let me preface this by saying I am 100% against any forms of terrorism. However there should be position where you condemn the killings, but also don't support the magazine.

We have the response from the magazine which released their "Survivor Edition" today. Seems like the classy thing to do would be to print a respectful "In Memoriam" for the victims. Instead they went with a "Fuck you Islam" direction and lampoon the religion even further by putting that caricature on the front page. Granted they could print anything they wanted for this issue with no repercussions, but did they really have to abuse this Carte blanche?

All proceeds from the sale of this week's edition will go directly to Charlie Hebdo, a windfall for a publication that had been struggling financially.

Make no mistake, they are profiting from this big time. NO mention of any donations to any appropriate charities, victim's funds, etc. They could have easily provided something for the grocery store victims, or the 3 police officers that were killed, as they suffered when they had nothing to do with the magazine.

Then there's the double standard and hypocrisy about the free speech issue. It's ironic that many of the 40 world leaders that took part in the "Solidarity march" come from countries that actively suppress free speech, such as Israel, Russia, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. For example Netanyahu was in Paris in support of free speech, yet we have this:

Israel to demand apology for ‘anti-Semitic’ Netanyahu cartoon

and
Israel extends detention of Palestinian cartoonist
https://www.cpj.org/2013/02/israel-extends-detention-of-palestinian-cartoonist.php

And as it has been pointed out in other threads, while cartoons and jokes insulting Islam is fair game, expressing your free speech about other issues is not.

Like I said, 100% condemn the terrorist actions, but there has to be a happy medium between supporting free speech and "Being Charlie".

They're not in business to be classy or respectful. And I thought is was respectful enough in their own way. But it's is their job to be defiant. In that, they succeeded.

They have a magazine to rebuild. They need to hire a new staff. I imagine that might be a bit of a challenge. And I don't know if they are relocating or staying in the same office that a bunch of their friends just got murdered.

Problem is Islam fanatics take satire way to seriously. Jesus in Western Societies is mocked, but they don't freak out like this Tebow Jesus love satire clip from SNL:

PS: Bears would of won that game if stupid Marion Barber didn't run out of bounds as the Bears would of killed the clock in their drive prior to the game tying FG by the Broncos to send the game into OT

But the other problem is that their counter attacks are plan for years to carry out the action instead of an immediate response.

Maybe Christians are ok with it, but other religions and races don't see the humor when it's against their own. At that point the line between satire and insult gets blurred.

I think the response by Charlie Hebdo was appropriate and they needed to respond immediately which they did. Never question how people react when they are grieving, each person reacts differently.

I would've run a cover with Mohammed getting fisted by Buddha whilst blowing Jesus and giving Confucius and Zoaster hand jibbers.

Agree.

We walk a fine line between depending on not for ourselves but the world's oil supply on not mocking in my book prophets. Which all of them are from Jesus, Budda, Jah, Muhammad............... Prophets of God and all these conflicts are stupid in the name of religion.

Middle East wants to be left alone from Western Culture. Fine with me, lets just become energy efficient.
