Hurricaine Ike,the newest storm of the century

http://www.goes.noaa.gov/HURRLOOPS/gulfvs.html

Another monster storm that fills the gulf of mexico.:(Hmm wonder why these are getting to be more common? Could it be what the scientists said would be the results of global warming with more storms of more intensity? Those damn inconvienent truths again.
They might want to stop calling them the "storms of the century" though as the century has long way to go,heck the current hurricaine season has long way to go,who knows how many more like this we will see just this year.

And while getting this image I notice there is a cat 4 in the pacific as well that is just as big.

Now thats just not fair that they get the same kind of storms we are getting.Geez they don't own 3 cars per person.:spin:

Maybe by 'storm of the century' they mean 'so far...'. That would explain why there's so many of them, heck there must be tons of things that are 'of the century' this early on ;)

maybe it's just the same storm, that has been going off an on for the last 8 years.

Well, the town I live in is directly in the projected path of this thing. It's supposed to blow up tonight and tomorrow to at least a Cat 3 and maybe even a Cat 4. It's mass mayhem in Houston right now.

I hope I see you all here when this thing blows over. Until then, I'm hunkering down. Got plenty of food, water, beer and a generator so I'm as ready for this as I can be.

Galveston is under real threat from what i'm hearing.Hopefully by the time it gets to where you are it has lost a lot of its power and its down to being a tropical storm. But the people on the coast better move out and are from what I hear. These big storms are getting all to common and probably even where I am we will get one that comes up and slams into NY harbor someday soon.Be safe and lets hope its just a bad rain storm for you.

Thanks FOMM. Unfortunately, if this things strikes where they are predicting right now, it won't have a chance to lose much steam before it hits where I live. These things have a habit of doing weird direction shifts at the last minute though so I remain hopeful it may slide a bit east of us and we'll get the "clean" side of the storm. If not, looks like I'm in for a wild ride.

Thanks for the concern. I'll keep y'all posted.

:D I live in Houston and it's headed straight to where I live. I live in the Fort Bend County area and so far we've been ordered to stay put and not evacuate so that we don't make things harder for people in lower lying areas that really need to evacuate. Good thing I don't live in flood plain area. :glugglug: Looks like I'll be weathering out this one.

Yeah...I got a huge can of beans, a lot of cookies, and several bottles of water. I also have 7 freshwater aquariums, so I won't go hungry!lol
We've been dodging Hurricanes in the Houston area for a while, Rita was a close call...this is the closest one has come, and of this size, for a while. I guess we were due for one eventually.
Ya'll be safe, have fun while it lasts; check in if the lines stay up.

Do you know where Carrizo Springs, TX is located? Even though I've been there before and my cousin, who is like a brother to me, lives there, I still have no clue where it's at.

I'm just wondering if he's in the path of the storm or not. :dunno:

I'd call and ask him but he never picks up because he's constantly on duty.

Carrizo Springs is way to the southwest of San Antonio, nowhere near the Hurricane and deep in the Hill Country of Texas. He's a lucky Texas, that's the mos' beautiful part of Texas.

That sounds about right. I think he was about 2 hours from San Antonio or something like that.

It is a pretty nice area though. There's a lot of people with a lot of money where he lives. So, that's nice.

I really wish I lived there...believe me!
The wind is really roaring right now, and the storm hasn't made landfall yet. Areas of Houston are flooding already from surge (I guess).
This is gonna be a fun time, nothing to do but see what happens.
