House OKs new oil company taxes

I think we know who will have to pay for all those taxes. And I had been so pleased that gas prices had been going down for the summer even though the price per barrel is going up. Not to mention I remember everyone saying we were going to pay through the ass for gas this summer. I guess we'll be paying through the ass this fall instead.:dunno:

It's nice to know that we have legislators who are upset that there are sucessful companies in this country.

Is it not true that we have to reduce our consumption of oil?Even the recent higher prices have not really resulted in less use.On so many fronts it is clear we need to reduce. We are importing a lot making it necessary to be all over the world meddling and creating resentments. We are changing the worlds enviorment with all the use of fossil fuels. It is said tax something and you will get less of it and thats what other countries like the europeans have done. They have high taxes and use much less oil per capita then the US.Tax the oil and use the money for cleaner/renewable energy seems logical. If Americans want painless solutions to tough problems, what they will get is no solutions at all IMO.

Simple...we all know what needs to be done with regard to reducing consumption of oil, but a lot of us don't want to do it because it takes effort and certain companies don't want to do it.

I had two cars that got well over 40mpg, and the other's were always small and almost as efficient, so I am not at all opposed to conservation of resources. In this day and age, I have to shake my head when I see US carmakers building these retro garbage things, retro names, racing stripes and all that, that get under 10mpg. Worse yet is people buy them! On credit! Oh, the cost of being cool!

It's almost farcical, but disgustingly typical. Foreign automakers started on this "fuel efficiency" kick about 20 years ago, Detroit didn't. Everything was going fine for Detriot, until the market changed -which it always does. Now, Detroit can't compete, so what do they do? ...ask the government not to change the rules, so Detroit won't have to change.

Honestly, if this was any automaker, and not the "American" automaker, the government wouldn't hesitate slapping these new laws on it. Quite ironically, we are afraid of punishing "American" Detroit because it can't compete with the "foreign" automakers in the U.S. South and Midwest. Go figure!

The answer is always the same. Bad thing happens. People complain but carry on in the exact same manner. Each reply follows up with: "What a messed up world, here's my thoughts:" and nothing changes.

Until we run out of oil, money or have a catastrophic disaster, nothing will change. Thats my usual reply give or take.
