Homeland Security hijacker malaware: anyone else get this"

I was clicking on a link in Fav Babes for a Playmate oic posted, and suddenly my screen was filled with a message from Homeland Security.
Busted, it said. I was caught using 1) ***** Porn, 2) trying to infringe on a copyright, or 3) using ******* software.
First clue...none of the above.
Then, it informed me my pc (or laptop) was locked (it was) and I had only 1 option.
Pay a $300 fine immediately, using Walmart, Walgreens, 7-Eleven, something called MoneyPac. (OK, stop laughing. Many are caught believing this and don't have time to think.)
Not paying means in 48 hours I'll be prosecuted and not allowed to pay a fine. By now I'm grinning, this is pretty good. Not good enough, but pretty good.

So, I started working on getting my laptop back.
(I was warned that any attempts to go around this lockout would result in a complete format of my hard drive.)
I did a Kapersky Boot disk, after my Avira rescue worked for a few hours.
It didn't remove it, it came back. So after using Spybot to remove 2 hijacker files, it was dormant for a day, but returned.
So...I did a recovery back to the 22nd, and it's gone now.

My version had every badge in the Federal LE book stacked on the right side...almost realistic enough to get lots of lame people to send the cash!
Since it's been 3 1/2 days since it got on my laptop and no Government agents have shown up with Glocks in hand, I feel safe.

Most articles about this Hijacker are attached to sites that sell antimalware software or services. Could be their malware.

There are links on Google and Bing, they do describe the ransomeware. Read only! No need to buy anything.

Here's the scary message...

U.S. Department of Homeland Security
National Cyber Security Division
This computer has been blocked
The work of your computer has been suspended on the grounds of the ********* of the Law of the United States of America.

Article 184. Pornography involving ********
Imprisonment for the term of up to 10-15 years(The use or distribution of pornography material)

Artticle 171. Copyright
Imprisonment for the term of up to 2-5 years. (The use or sharing copyrighted files)

Article 113. The use of unlicensed software
Imprisonment for the term of up to 2 years (The use of unlicensed software)

To unlock the computer you are obliged to pay a fine of $300. You must pay the fine through MoneyPak.
You have 48 hours to pay the fine. If the fine has not been paid, you will become the subject of criminal prosecution without the right to pay the fine. The Department for the Fight Against Cyberactivity will confiscate your computer and take You to Court.

PS: I keep nearly ALL my stuff on about 5 TBs of external hard drives, and almost nothing on my laptop. So recovery was no big deal for me. Formatting either.
If you keep everything on your computer seek smart help if infected.

I wish there was a way to trace these things. I have a nephew, that could come up with the most evil of electronic revenges. If he wasn't a good person, from a good home, he could be an evil genius.

I would love to destroy these cocksuckers...all of these cocksuckers.

Put malwarebytes on your machine. It'll help block that type of malware n the future.

I was looking at some Nicole Ray porn videos 5 weeks ago when I got a similar message. It filled up my entire screen assuring I wouldn't be able to click on anything else, not even my internet connection or the Start option on the bottom left. Said I had to pay a 300-dollar fine. I had to take my computer to a tech because I had no earthly idea what this message was. Fearing something ******* may have been on my computer without me knowing about it, I defended myself that I would never look at any ******* content (and it's true, I wouldn't) and luckily he said he was familiar with such a virus screen and knew how to get rid of it (which he did for 165 bucks). He installed Malwarebytes Pro, which is a lifetime subscription. He said it's the best way to protect your internet from malware, and so far it's working fine so he must be right. I recommend going on youtube and watching a few videos showing different techniques on how to remove it, in case you encounter this message again as well as downloading Malwarebytes software (everyone recommends using this for a reason- it's reliable and worth the price).

This is obviously not from the government, but yeah. It's malware. There was an article that I think Roald posted recently about how all of the big porn sites out there are full of the stuff-

Sounds like the reptillian moon jew kenyan NWO is somehow behind this. I'd be careful, mang.

It is called ransomware and its apparently very lucrative since a lot of people do pay for this.

just a virus type of thing. They try to scare you and get money. I had it once. Follow Petra's advice it is the same thing I did to clean it up.

this happened to me once. i was freaked out a little while until i looked up it up on a different computer and confirmed that it was fake. to get rid of start your computer in safe mode and run your anti-virus scan then quarantine the malware.

Thank you Ms Petra, I downloaded the free version of malwarebytes and it found some left behind vestige of ransomware and zapped it.
Something that may have opened a pathway to repeat the takeover again.
The people at Spybot told me if I had had the current version of their software installed (I was running 16.*.*.* and I needed 2.0) it would have caught it.
Oh well...NOW I'm ready!

It's a good little program. I use the pro version, but it gives my home PC better protection when I'm doing stuff for work. ;-)

I hadn't heard of this type of hijacker...boy, did I have a few minutes of fun.
I mean, there was a time when I deeply believed in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy (the real one, not Larry the fat Cable Guy), and it took a minute for my adult common sense to kick in (pay or go to PRISON...and we take your Sony Viao!)

Me:
It had to be all those DVDs I copied...hey, wait a minute...

[Disclaimer...hypothetical DVDs]

How did you get it unlocked?
