Home remedies

I've had an issue with serious hiccups since I was a ***. But this remedy which was handed down from my grandma has worked for me each time: take 7 sips of water (why 7 and why water? nevermind) then inhale deeply and hold your breath for as long as you can. I always use that as a last resort because it's cheesy af, but it's always worked.

thanks grandma!

Fix for hiccups: take a mouth full.of water, bend forward at the waist as far as you can, slowly swallow the water, count to 10 then stand up straight again.

I just tried it with **** and it's not working.

An issue of where the air goes, what the body thinks it should do, overcorrects and now creates a perpetual problem.

I think home remedies are both homeopathic (natural goodness) and placebo effect. If you are actively trying to get rid of something, your mind sends... a badly translated message... over a line with high packet loss.. to the source of the issue.
Does it work? Of course. You did it, yourself. Did it really work? No. You self-cured by changing the displacement and viscosity of the whole situation that involves breathing, ergo your body has to pull a 'soft reset' and hopefully it wont boot back into the issue.

(After rereading this, yeah.. I dunno why techspeak works in every situation, but.. it does. SO whatever. :) )

Finally figured out why I had a similar issue. We both eat rice, I have a feeling. Do you notice those hiccups when you shovel down rice too fast? I get that and I finally realized it's from my food dragging down, taking its sweet time in a too dry of throat. Waters washes it out for me.

As for hiccups cure, I take the biggest breath I can and send it as low into my abdomen I can. Works like a charm but requires you to yoga vision that breath deep down.

I grew up on rice so that's probably related. It's not a staple for me anymore since I've been on my own (I miss ***'s cooking) but last night's episode I'm pretty sure was ****-induced. And yes, exactly what you described - you almost have to fracture your rib cage with that inhale then hold it right before ******** sometimes.

but those 7 sips of water though.

Swallow sugar (just enough that would be in a sugar packet so what, a tsp worth?).

Apparently the sugar stimulates something called the vagus nerve and that makes your body forget about the hiccups. Anyways, this usually helps me.
