Harry Shearer quits the Simpsons.

Harry Shearer, the voice of Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Principal Skinner, Otto, Smithers, and many more on The Simpsons, has apparently left the show. Shearer used Twitter to indicate that he wouldn't be returning in upcoming seasons of the long, long-running cartoon, suggesting that his desire to work on other projects was the reason for the decision. The actor quoted Simpsons writer and producer James L. Brooks' lawyer, who reportedly said that while the "show will go on, Harry will not be part of it."

The good news is that this frees up his schedule for Spinal Tap II.

For the EMPEROR!!
Wow. I haven't watched a Simpsons episode for ages, but it won't be the same without him.

I saw him (and the complete Simpsons cast) in an "Inside the Actors Studio" one time. He was funny as fuck. One bit I remember is, when someone in the audience must've got up when he was talking so he switched to Principle Skinners voice and did a " Sir, where are you going" type of thing.
Hilarious.

They should of finished up the series years ago (when it was still funny) and sent it off on a good note. Instead they will continue to whore it out for god knows how long, even without Harry Shearer. :horse:

Whatever Harry decides to do I'm sure it will be successful. I wouldn't be against Spinal Tap II either.

Not surprised. Harry has often said that the show is crap now. I was hoping the other cast members would join him but they just signed a 2 year contract. I guess this is a step in the right direction though. As much as I love the classic Simpsons episodes the show has been bad for close to 15 years and needs to die. I occasionally watch a new episode hoping that maybe, if I'm lucky, it will actually get a chuckle out of me but I end up just cringing at the train wreck.

What are they trying to accomplish? The show has been on for 26 years. With new shows lucky to make it past the 2nd season no other show will even come close to that now a days.
