Happy Birthday President Reagan.

Ronald Reagan would have turned 99 today.

Ronaldis Magnus

You are missed.

It's way past bedtime for Bonzo....

Regan defeated the Communists, but he couldn't defeat a metal defect.

Looks like his Star Wars missile defence doesn't scare disease. Shit.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
He couldn't celebrate after 1994 actually. Because of his illness.

Funny thing though, he actually remembered selling arms to the Iran Contras...

Part of me wishes that he was still alive and well so he could see with his own eyes the colossal mess the country is in right now that he had a gigantic part in creating. Not that he would be smart enough to see it, or actually own up to it or care even if he did.

So Obama inherited Reagan's mess too? :1orglaugh

He only oversaw the greatest peacetime economic expansion in our history. Brought the Soviet Union to the negotiating table, and rebuilt America's military might.

Yeah, he really fucked shit up.

And Obama has already spent more money that Reagan ever did.

Probably the stupidest post in the history of the internet.

Congratulations.

Hmmm. This is what happens when someone tries to take the cotton candy away from a Reagan mark :1orglaugh

Reagan was probably the biggest economic disaster we have ever had outside the Great Depression. It just took a while for what he did to take effect, and while a lot of people throughout the years have had an effect on all the ills our economy is in right now, both republican and democrat, Reagan probably had the single biggest effect out of anybody.

He didn't build America up to anything. He borrowed against our future to make things look good back then, including raiding social security so he didn't have to tax the rich because he was running out of money himself and running up more debt. It was all an illusion created by smoke and mirrors, and we are finally starting to pay the piper. You can't alter the economy against most of it's people and not expect long term repercussions from it. The days of reckoning are starting to come for this country.

Things were already heading south economically since the early 70's but after Reagan was in office 90% of Americans' economic situation didn't improve. That was while economic wealth increased as a whole. It's even a lot worse when you consider what while household income for the vast majority of Americans didn't more at all comparatively and a lot more households were moving to two income households, so in essence we were making less and working more. His trickle down economics not only didn't work it didn't even trickle down. The trickle evaporated before it ever reached the bottom. The biggest movement of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich in the country, maybe ever, happened largely because of him. So yes, I guess if your the type of person that's in the top 10% and especially the top 1% or top .1% of this country in wealth you were VERY happy with Reagan and still are. He made those people go from being rich to being richer than God while draining the wealth that would have gone to almost everybody else to do it..

I'm still not sure if he was just that calculation or in his heart he was just so filled with his ideological bullshit that he actually believe what he was doing was going to work out. Maybe it's a combination of the two. There sure wasn't any real logic to it other than the party ideology. I could also bring up his irrational loathing of unions, his total disconnect with the common everyday working people especially the poor, the step up in outsourcing with him in office, and his mindless deregulating of everything he could get away with. What's worse is he did it all under some guise of "compassionate conservatism". I still get a laugh after all this time about the people that love Reagan so much when a lot of his stuff was utter nonsense and hurt us a great deal, and I'm not even a democrat.

As far as "beating communism" I give him credit for a lot of it, but lets not delude ourselves. Even in that respect Reagan was overrated. The USSR was already heading downhill as a big part of the decades of economic warfare the US had been engaging against it. There was much more than Reagan involved with that. The way some people talk he was a combination of Chuck Norris and Jack Bauer that went over there as a one man army and kicked their asses until they surrendered. I think a lot of credit Reagan gets for it is blown out of proportion. I will give him one thing though, he made a good speech in front of the Berlin Wall, but you can't exactly hang a great presidency on that when so much else he so utterly screwed up.

Reagan is a good PR person that the Republicans try to lift up because a lot of people were dumb enough to be fooled by him at that time. Yes, Reagan is very responsible for much of the economic troubles this country has right now and is going to have for a long long time to come, unless we drastically start changing things soon.

(Maybe you should enlighten yourself about what a stupid post really is and look at a certain somebody else in this thread.)

I guess I'm gonna have to light your ass up with real facts and not this revisionist history bullshit that the left tries to pull with the Reagan presidency.

Get your ideological head out of your ass. IT WAS the greatest peacetime economic expansion in history. The government took in more income AFTER he lowered the tax rate. More people went to work because businesses expanded and invested.

It was the private sector that created this not government, which is what the idiot running the show now thinks creates jobs and prosperity.

You have the audacity to complain that Reagan left us with debt? Christ son! You may be an old man before you see what type of real debt this country is going to be in after the Obama years.

Borrow against Social Security? Here is another fact, Until right now. the government could at least pay the recipients with what is being paid in by the rest of us.
Since Obama took office, now we can't even do that. We are borrowing money from China to pay Social Security benefits.

Until LBJ, no President had tapped into it, so don't blame Reagan LBJ took it to the mountain with his "Great Society" clusterfuck.

Carter had raped our military assets to the point that we were using borrowed and used parts for weapons platforms. All for his experiment in social engineering. You know.... when the housing crisis really started?

Reagan took over the presidency with more crap to deal with from a previous administration than anyone.

How do you move wealth from the poor?

Please tell us economics guru.

The mess we are in now was created mainly by government backing loans for homes that people couldn't afford. Pure and simple . And even though you say you are not a Democrat you sure do sound like one.

There is plenty of blame to go around for the current mess, even to the previous administration, but Reagan is not your scapegoat.

But you want to complain about what Reagan spent? When this current administration is spending away our future at a rate never before seen.

Tell it to your coffee shop liberal friends, because any person with a grasp of the facts knows exactly where to place the blame, And it wasn't Ronald Reagan.

Maybe you should take your own advice the next time you hi jack someone elses thread (like you & other losers did with the MLK tribute thread) with lame jokes & a bunch of religious babble that had nothing to do with MLK/Civil Rights Movement.

Some of you were the same losers who kept hijacking Michael Jackson tribute threads even causing moderators to lock some threads & even ban several posters.

Now continue your thread about the senile old man who based his life/administration upon Astrology & practiced what Bush called "Voo Doo" economics.:wave2:
