"(Reuters) - Halliburton Co has agreed to plead guilty to destroying evidence related to the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and will pay the maximum possible statutory fine, the U.S. Department of Justice said on Thursday.

The plea agreement requires court approval, and also requires the Houston-based company to be subject to three years of probation and to continue its cooperation with the government's ongoing criminal probe.

Halliburton also made a voluntary $55 million payment to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation that is not subject to court approval of the plea agreement, the Justice Department said.

A spokeswoman for Halliburton did not immediately respond to requests for comment."

Wow it's so nice of them to agree to a fine that is probably equal to their petty cash account. And please, $55 million is probably some inside joke by the CEO to taunt environmentalist groups.

Why are there maximum penalties for corporations? Why not fine on a case by case basis? Under nobama's administration, that little fiasco involving the well they couldn't cap....even though the BP was told NOT to use the chemical, Corexit (spelling), they did anyway, and it was allowed, and it was worse then the oil itself. Big oil gets to EVERY politician, EVERYWHERE...party affiliation means nothing, they all get a slice of the pie, and they all have stocks, and get contributions. I just watched the Cheney documentary. What a brilliant deviant lying manipulative cocksucker that guy is. The lies he told to sell the war to people who didn't buy it like Dick Armey is incredible. All the times he stood and talked to people who questioned the evidence as if they were stupid. It is incredible that he and Rumsfeld and Rice and Bush aren't in prison. But he was the ring leader. There is absolutely zero doubt that anyone else would have been prosecuted for a crime that devastating.

It's an excellent film and it really gives you an insight to how brilliant the guy is. But also how calculating and unconcerned with casualties. I agree with him on a lot though. Torture is fine with me. Black ops should have played a much bigger part of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq which Rumsfeld was against. Rumsfeld wanted the big war as did Bush. But hey, his buddies at Haliburton got fucking seriously rich with all those no-bid contracts and I'm sure he got some sweet kick backs.
