He now has the record for most batters retired in a row. 45 straight... previous record was 41 tied by two other guys one of them being a White Sox pitcher.

Too bad he had to pitch against the Twins. ;)

Wow!! 15 straight innings without allowing a baserunner? Dude.....that is just unconscious. He's become an instant legend this week although he has always been a very good pitcher. Now, he may be immortal. I'm sure they'll be erecting a statue in his honor one day in his old home town (and mine) of St. Charles, Missouri. That record may never be eclipsed.

I think it will be beaten someday. No one has thrown two perfect games in a row. That is almost unimaginable, but not impossible if the guy is good enough.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
As much as it pains me, Buehrle deserves a big congratulations for this feat. I only wish he pitched on the North Side...

Well, baseball records have been kept since 1869 and it hasn't happened yet so I would tend to disagree....it's just way too improbable to retire 45 straight guys.....no walks, no errors, no dropped third strikes, no nothing. Extremely unlikely.

In fact, consecutive no-hitters have only been accomplished once in baseball history....by Cincinnati's Johnny Vander Meer way back in 1938:

Regardless, it is an incredible feat. Props to Buerhle....big time. :glugglug:

Very nice, I actually had hope that he would get a second perfect game in a row, but the Twins have too good of an offense to let that happen. Too bad he's stuck with the White Sox ;).

Too bad for you, maybe.I'm glad we have him.

Without saying that he's the best out there,he's probably the most underrated/under appreciated pitcher in all of baseball.I kinda felt the same way about Mike Mussina as well, when he was in his prime.

as bad as it felt to be a fan of the team that got perfect gamed.....i watching standing and clapping along with the rest of those fans

it was a treat to watch....now i hope it never happens to us again

Yuuuuup. He's had his rough moments, but he's been one of the most productive and hard to beat pitchers in baseball for quite a few years now. Yet, hardly anybody knew who he was until he threw his perfect game (even though he recently threw a no hitter as well). SIGH, baseball fans.

I will say, aside from the record obviously being a major feat, I was genuinely impressed by the classiness of the Twins fans in attendance to give him a standing ovation when he set the record. That's pretty awesome in my view.
