Greatest Guitarist Of All Time

I wonder what the guy who ended up 101st thought?

That list could be interchangeable at any of the top 25. I would put Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Chet Akins, Al DiMeola, David Gilmour, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, Bill Nelson in my top ten.

Jimi Hendrix thought that Rory Gallagher was the best.

None better than the guitarist with The Outlaws, who at the 5:18 mark on the song, rocks like there aint no tomorrow!

Which one? I believe they have multiple ones.

I would have had Duane and SRV higher and dropped Clapton 2 or 3 spots. The only real problem I have is that some of the old blues greats were ranked way too low.

The reason why Pete Townshend is so high on the list was because he was the main songwriter for the Who. In fact, in some cases, there is no other songwriters listed. Occasionally, the Who had John Entwhisle as a songwriter.

The same can be said with Pink Floyd. Roger Waters wrote most of their songs. Though Roger is a bassist. Thus the reason why David Gilmour is ranked so low.

Pete Townshend's song writing ability alone rivals that of Lennon-McCartney, Jagger-Richards, and Plant-Page.

I would have liked to have seen Frank Zappa higher, but beggars (me) can't be choosers.

If we're talking flashyness then yeah Hendrix or SRV but for riffs it's Tony Iommi all the way, Steve Morse is also amazing

And if you really think about... Tony Iommi is actually a one handed guitarist. That sheet metal injury in his younger days caused him to wear a prosthesis on the tips of his middle and ring fingers of his right "fretboard" hand.

Good for him. :)

If I remember correctly this happened on his last day working there before joining Black Sabbath.

I hate talking about this. How do you even judge this?? Sure some of those guys in the top 10 wrote some great stuff, but we all know a guy like Vai, Satriani or Gilbert would play circles around them. :dunno:

They released a list a few years back with Jack White, Kurt Cobain and Kirk Hammett in the top 10, so this is an improvement.
