Google Fiber

Do you really even need internet that multiple times faster than current ones or are you guys in America still using some old dial-up connections? Unless you are hosting some tube servers for porn, I can pretty safely say that any average person in normal household as of today will never need all the bandwidth. I think we all know where all that extra bandwidth is being used all the time anyway... High speed internet sounds more a marketing trick to make silly people pay more for same things they'd get for much lower price. I take all the American Apple fanboys are used to buy anything as long as price is set high enough and shiny fruits are included?

With 4K TVs there's eventually going to be mainstream 4K content. And to stream that you're going to need something faster than what's being offered now in most U.S. markets.

Like she said, "faster, faster, faster."

I've been curious about the connection speed you guys have around the states, especially with all the infrastructures lagging behind due other interests of your government.

I have DSL, 25.000 - and I could upgrade to 100 K any day. Where do you clock in?

I have AT&T and currently I have the Max Plus plan and that is 18 Mbps. AT&T's highest internet plan only goes up to 45 Mbps. Compare that to Google Fiber which would give you 1000 Mbps. There's no comparison especially when with Fiber you're getting both internet and TV

MustBeGood might have a hunch here...

you also (probably) don't need all that storage space on your PC, but it's nice to have it right?;)

I want you. Let's make this happen.

The only problem with Google Fiber is that no consumer-grade networking hardware or setup has the horsepower required to fully take advantage of the bandwidth. You'd need to invest in a professional-grade network setup with full gigabit CAT7 Ethernet, a professional-grade WiFi access point with the latest tech, and you'd have to replace all your older non-Gigabit/non-wireless AC devices to get the most out of it.

The install happened yesterday and although I upgraded my two home network switches only my work computer has a NIC that will do GigabitEthernet. But I still am happy Google Fiber came to Austin :)

I envy you. Though Google announced they were exploring Chicago as one of the next cities to get Fiber. Get this done!
