‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Trailer: Legendary Movie Monsters Prepare for Ultimate Showdown

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I don't know. I still rather watch the old school "guy in a rubber Godzilla costume" monster flicks. And why is everything shot in dark settings, you can barley see the monsters?

Looks good, but why is Godzilla the villain?

The way the last film ended, seemed to suggest that all the monsters were in agreement that Godzilla was in charge. Now...why would a bunch of monsters get together and try to help humanity? Sci-Fi Rule #101 Section A states clearly, ...movie monsters are IN NO WAY permitted to aid mankind UNLESS mankind is threatened by another monster NOT a member of the International Monsters Union (IMU). Exceptions are also permitted in the Articles of Change introduced in 1942 in the contract renegotiation, ...monsters deemed "foreign"...that is, originating in foreign lands...are allowed to aid mankind as long as they originated in the country wherein. such inhabitants they are protecting reside...Back in the Fifties there was a row over this, in Tanaka v. Cooper et. al., whereby the monsters fighting each other had to produce a clear victor. The summation of that case was extraordinary: the judge ruled that BOTH monsters would win, each in their own separate movie produced in the respective countries of origin.

I love the response, LOL

But IIRC in "King of the Monsters" isn't that what they did when they helped beat Ghidorah?

Here you go! Let's put this into perspective ...

My take ...

* Godzilla looks better in the 1962 film. Always standing up. He looks much more different in the 2021 film. I've never seen him crawl on all four limbs horizontally. Then when he stands up then you know he's Godzilla.

* King Kong looks better in the 2021 film. Facially much more like a giant gorilla than in the 1962 counterpart.

Historical accuracy ...

I do like the prehistoric premise that the 2021 film takes. Explaining the origins of King Kong and Godzilla's early descendants.

Alright, so there are United States Navy destroyers, cruisers, and battleships in the 2021 version. In the 1962 version, the Japanese Army and Navy along with a U.S. Navy submarine. I'm okay with the U.S. Navy's destroyers and cruisers in the 2021 film. But battleships? Those things were all decommissioned after the Gulf War in 1991.

I agree from a realism/continuity point it's inaccurate, but I think it's the scale. You want them fighting the largest ships so the visual scale of the battle is that much more impressive. The issue is, the largest ships these days are carriers (& some cargo ships), and those don't exactly have defensive capabilities for a fair fight.
