Global Warming ate my homework!

I noticed that P.M. Gordon Brown stated that flooding in the UK was the cause of Global Warming.... does anyone else miss the days when things were explained by saying that "it's nature's way, and these things sometimes happen?" Recently, it seems like, no matter what natural disaster happens anywhere on the globe, it's always the result of global warming. According to records, the last such floods occurred in the UK approximately 60 years ago, presumably when global warming was less prevalent/serious, so what was the cause of this flood? People who live in a flood zone, whether it be a 5, 20, or 100 year zone, realize that the area will at some time or another flood, so don't you think that we're becoming rather hypersensitive when we blame absolutely everything on global warming?

Well to be honest Alexios the debate is only among the non-scientific community at this point. The scientific consensus is that all these extremes are a result of global climate change. Not that places have not had floods, heat waves, hurricaines before but that they will more often and more severe now due to the climate change. And as we constantly keep adding greenhouse gases it will get worse,so If you are getting global warming fatigue now you will really be bummed a lot more in the near future if you are above water lol.

Here is a story on the European weather I just looked up to see what it was being blamed on and not surprisingly to me it is global climate change.

Assuming that global warming is an actual problem that we should have great concern about, is it not better that we blame it for ongoing natural disasters, which global warming may or may not have been the cause of, then just reduce it to just another act of Mother Nature? Anything that you can do to cause people to focus on a problem that may be catastrophic is good and beneficial. You haven't hurt anyone by saying it's global warming. And if it is a situation caused by global warming, than you have done a disservice to the public by just saying that it's just Mother Nature. People won't be aware that a problem is occuring and won't be trying to find solutions or prepare for future problems that may happen as a result of global warming.

I don't know the reason for the flooding, but in the US about 10 years ago, the Mississippi River valley was flooding on the 50 year level every year. As far as I know, that had no direct link to global warming as this may not have. I don't like it either when people jump on the political bandwagon and blame Al Queda when their car doesn't start.

Weather is such a complex thing that it's impossible to point to one specific event and say it's because of global warming. I can't say the rain shower we had last week was from it with any certainty for example. However the continual increases in the extremes in weather and climate as a whole can be attributed to it with good confidence. It would be kind of hard to point to all the weather shifts across the globe and say it's all coincidence. So was that flooding because of global warming? I don't think anybody can say for certain. It doesn't mean it would have happened if global warming didn't exist though. So why saying it was because of global warming is not based in scientific evidence it isn't the most farfetched thing to believe it might of had some type of impact on it.
